John Mark Helfer, Dr. Bob Ball and Briana Breault
Bishop Donahue High School Sophomores John Mark Helfer and Briana Breault were recently honored at the 44th Annual West Virginia Regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.  The symposium was held at W.V. Wesleyan College in early April.   The students were accompanied by their teacher Dr. Robert Ball.

John Mark Helfer won 1st place for his project titled: “The Effect of Pre-Heating a Fuel Mixture on its Combustion Heat Yield”.  John Mark won a $2,000 general scholarship, a $5,000 scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan that is renewable for four years.  In addition John Mark was awarded an all expenses paid trip to Colorado Springs, Colorado to compete in the National Junior Science and Humanities Symposium.  The national competition provides a chance to win additional scholarship money and an all expenses paid trip to London, England for the International Youth Science Forum.

Briana Breault placed fourth with her project: “Hydroelectric Power Potential in the Ohio River Valley”.  Briana was awarded a $1,500 scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan College that is renewable for four years.  She also received an all expenses paid trip to Colorado Springs to observe the National Symposium.
