February 4, 2000 Reporters Cammi Granato *** Rich Storm Volume VI Issue 5

Friday 1/28/2000

The Rivermen were red hot, they were going for their 10th straight win on Friday as they battled The New Orleans Brass (22-13-5).  The Duffers arrived in town to bring them good luck.  The Duffers have never seen the Rivermen lose.  A close look at the roster shows that the Alien never went on any of the other trips, so it is easy to jump to conclusions and blame him for stopping the winning streak.  We won't tell Bill that the Sharks flew in 3 of their top prospects to help the Brass down the Rivermen, it is more fun blaming the Alien for the loss.  The 18 Duffers helped boost the attendance over 5000.  They only would have had 4989 if we had stayed home.
The Mighty Ducks also flew in a “Gun” to help Dayton on Saturday, but it backfired as the goon was ejected when he got into a fight on his first shift and the Rivermen won 3-2, as they held their opponents to a record low 16 shots on goal.  Alien went back to Chicago to meet with Magoo.  Magoo turned down a trip to Peoria because he had a meeting with the Alien.  Are you confused yet?  I’ll stop after one more Alien tale. Alien called Beak on Thursday night in a panic, because he couldn’t find a room in Peoria.  Bill hasn’t been on a trip since the 3 legged dog chased him in Dubuque

The King was able to reserve the last 7 rooms in Peoria with King sized beds, at a slightly higher rate, but the cost included a very nice breakfast.  The King filled up his cereal bowl with gravy, (thinking it was oatmeal) the servant politely asked if he wanted a biscuit with his gravy.
Only Hitman, Tinman and Antman had to triple up in a king size bed.  They left without saying good-by on Saturday morning.
The game featured 3 semi meaningful goals by the Peoria Duffer organizer, Art Koudelka.  Sir Art tapped in 3 Beak passes.  Sir Art learned the Duffer system well, he passed up numerous breakaways  waiting for meaningful trailers.  He waited and waited and waited….  Hitman and Papa Joe scored the only meaningful goals on Friday.

Fred and Doc were called up for Saturday's game as Alien, Morgan and Joe Jr. were sent down.  75 year old Peoria Pete was called in to even the sides.  The King’s team was short of talent when they gave away Sir Art, so Pete made it ten skaters for each side.  Fruitcake scored the only meaningful goal as the two teams skated to a 3-3 meaningless tie.  Stump, UB, Doc and Fred drove back to Chicago in a snow storm after the game.

Hats off to Klinger for staying awake during most of the week end after a 10 hour flight from Japan.  Ask him about toilet paper, cold pizza and phone sleep.

Can you recognize this scalp?                    Thanks to Don and the Rivermen
Hint* Those are hacksaw scars.

Uncle Bob got Club House Designs (630) 616-9357 to donate some Duffer hats for a Peoria Beer fund raiser. Hats are priced at $10.00 if you go to Peoria for the week end, you get a $5.00 rebate.  All proceeds will pay for Road trip beer.  Thanks UB, we finally found a way to get more than 10 guys to go to Peoria.

Road Kill Sausages were greatly appreciated, thanks Bob.

The Mayor of Hayward is always ready to open the city up to us!  A number of Duffers have asked about Hayward.  Are you one of us?
Let's go to Hayward in March!
