I've hit a road block, g-grandfather, Willie Green (W.G.) Dempsey, died in 1920 at the age of 44. He married an Abel Lucindy Barnhill. My grandfather was only 9 and has also died, as well as his 4 sisters. No one in the family seems to know much. I was
ble to find out his birth date (4-24-1876) and death dates (2-17-1920), but that's about it. If this means anything to anyone, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks!

Leo J. Dempsey was born in 1896 and married Elizabeth Fowler who was born in
1895. Elizabeth was the daughter of James Fowler (1851-1933) and Annie O'Toole
(1869-1959). I know that Leo is buried in a PA military cemetary (a veteran of

Recently returned to Ireland and hope to trace any family. Late father, James
Joseph (Joe) Dempsey was only child of Patrick Dempsey, d.1960 from Gorey
Co.Wexford but lived Ranelagh, Dublin, and his wife Florence Mary, d.1962,
daughter of Patrick Short r Shortt and his wife Anne Quin or Quinn, of Dargle
Road, Bray, Co. Wicklow, married there 1880, thought to have had many other
children. Sister of Patrick Dempsey (grandfather) was believed to have married
a French chef.

I am researching the O'DEMPSEY family who emigrated in 1855 from Rathcannon,
County Tipperary to Warwick, Queensland. Relatives in Ireland and America are
still called DEMPSEY. Only those in Australia added the prefix '0' to the
surname. My ancestor James Patrick (JP) O'DEMPSEY married Johanna O'DWYER from
Nods Town, Boherlahan, County Tipperary, Ireland on 10 June, 1855, and they had
thirteen children in Australia. James father Patrick DEMPSEY is buried in Holy
Cross Abbey. Are there any relatives searchi g for this DEMPSEY branch. There

Very interesting to read all the comments.My Paternal Grandparents were from
County Roscommon, where we still have many cousins. The family moved to a place
now called Clonnreilgh. It is now a deserted village. They fled there in the
1650's after being d splaced by the Cromwellian settlements. Our cousin, Sr.
Maria Dempsey, who lives in Birmingham, England is the family historian and has
lots of stories - including why John and Tom feature so prominantly in Dempsey

My g-grandfather was John Joseph Dempsey, the son of Hugh Dempsey & Mary
Reid/Reed. He was born in County Kildare, possible Kilberry. He married Hanorah
CondonConlon of County Cork & there were at least 9 children of this
marriage. At least 2 of the ch ldren were born in Killeague, County Cork. He
& the 2 oldest children emigrated to NY in the late 1870's &
ultimately, the entire crowd settled in Salem, MA. I know of one sibling, James
Dempsey. James settled in Salem, MA in the early 1860's. Hope to connect with

Very nicely done site. I am searching for the family of Maria and Grace Dempsy,
(their spelling), two sisters who each married Edward Reeves. They were nieces of
Richard Dempsy of Philadelphia, who died in the 1880's a very wealthy man.
Maria Dempsy gr duated from Ard School in Ireland in 1841 and by 1850 was in
the US and married--her only son, Richard Robert, was born that year. Richard
Dempsy had no children and left considerable sums of money to folks in
Portarlington. Edward Reeves was supposedly born in Portarlington 11/11/1822,
but we have never been able to prove that. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Recently found that my Great-Great-Grandfather was Daniel Dempsey of Minane
Bridge, just south of Cork City and north of Kinsale. Daniel was born in 1800
and was married to Margaret McDonnell. They had seven children, one of whom was
my Great-grandfather, Bat Dempsey. Bat married Hannah Connell with whom he in
turn had eight children. When Hannah died between 1901 and 1911, Bat remarried
to Mrs. Deasy, who owned the Blue haven in Kinsale. Any of this sound familiar
to anyone? Many of the Dempsey's are buried in the Family Plot in Tracton Abbey
Cemetery. Check it out!

My Great Grandfather, Daniel Dempsey sailed from Liverpool, England to
California in the mid 1890's as a crew member of a British merchant ship. He
jumped ship in his early twenties in a local port town in the Bay area and
never looked back. After raising a family he died of pneumonia in 1914 and left
us with a big "missing link" in our Dempsey lineage and a big mystery
that to this very day I am trying to solve. He had a sister in Taunton and
that's all we know of his Family. Does this sound vaguely famil ar to anyone??

Family tradition is that the name was changed from Dempsey many generations
ago. Tradidtion also holds that the line is Scotch-Irish rather then Irish. I
