I have made this site, so that I can share my experiences with Cerebral Palsy with other people. I want to help others individuals understand what it is like to live with a disability.
I want to share some accomplishments with you. The beginning of my Senior year in High School, I was invited to participate in a special program for youth leadership in America. I attended the Republican Convention as part of this program. I was selected because of my leadership skills in my state. I have been recognized as a leader in some of the government documents in my state. I have addressed some of the issues faced by individuals with disabilities including discrimination within the school. I graduated from a regular high school with a B+ average and won a scholarship because of academics and service to my community. I did it on my own. (with some help from family) the reason why I'm telling you this is because you can do things too if you try. They don't have to be big things, but every time you try and don't give up you have won. Keep trying!
I want everyone to know that all accomplishments bring you closer to your goals. I want to go into business so I have worked with my Governor's Council on Disabilities as a Youth Leader participating in the Youth Leadership conference and Partners in Policy-making. I am also wanting everyone to realize that if you set your mind on something and don't get it the first time, but keep trying you will eventually reach that goal. DON"T GIVE UP! KEEP TRYING!!!!
There are two quotes that help me get through some of the trying times from the "G.I. Jane" movie. Both of them are said by Master Chief played by Viggo Mortensen. They are:
"Master Chief John Urgayle: Pain is your friend; it is your ally. Pain reminds you to finish the job and get the hell home. Pain tells you when you have been seriously wounded. And you know what the best thing about pain is? It tells you you're not dead yet!
Master Chief: I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A bird will fall frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself."
Both of these explain my philosophy of life. I deal with the pain (emotional and physical) because it reminds me I am alive and I refuse to feel sorry for myself regardless of what the world the throws at me. I encourage you to find similar phrases to help you through the day.
