Guinea Pigs are the best. I started with Charlie, a black self that was a gift for my daughter. I loved him so much that I told my boyfriend I was thinking about getting another one. Surprise....he gave me Pumpkin for Sweetest Day. When my boyfriend start d showing interest, well, we just had to get one for him:-) But when I picked out Taz, there was a lone pig in the cage next to him who was 2 years old, and half price. Of course I had to have him. His name is Cruiser. They all have very different persona ities and we love them all dearly.

Nice site, Debbie! May I make just one itty-bitty comment? As a veterinarian, I feel it is a disservice to lead owners of pet guinea pigs to believe that their cavies may live 8-10 years, as your cavy info says they may with "good care." With the most exc llent of care I expect cavies to live only 3-4 years, 5 years is a VERY old cavy! I always tell my cavy clients this, so they don't feel like they did something wrong when their pet died earlier than they thought it would. Just a "pet peeve" about the gen ral cavy info that's out there. Thanks for reading.

A COMMENT FROM THE WEB OWNER: Hi... Thanks for signing our guest book!! It was great to see your comments. Although I have only been breeding for 2 years I am very familiar with guinea pigs and have been around them for many years. My oldest pig is 9 and I also have a 7 yr. old and a 6 y . old. (I am still using the 6 yr. old for breeding.) I have had many pigs in my home, that I have taken in as rescues, that have been even older than that. The oldest pig I have had in my home was 13. I placed him in a pet home (he was a former show ig and also used for breeding) and at the ripe old age of 14 he died of cancer. There is another breeder who lives very close to me and she has been in pigs for many many years. She also has several pigs who are into their 9th year or older. I do agree that most do not live more than 8 yrs but I have seen with the right care and ci cumstances they can and do live much longer. I love this site, and I've never even wanted a Cavy! The sounds are endearing, and add a special touch to each page of your site; it made me want to read on and on! Great pictures! I liked the human touch of displaying your pictures, too! If the babies are attractive, perhaps you could have a baby photo page, and a separate sow and boar photo page. As you know, Cassie is a Chow, and in visiting Chow sites I came ac oss a breeder who did this (Chikoo Chows.) It serves as a very useful delineation for prospective buyers!
