Dixie was rescued on Mar.9,1998. We rescued her from our local pound and a couple of days later she came down with parvo. Luckily, she defeated it and the secondary infection that followed. Today she is a a wonderful friend and companion and she gets to sleep in the bed. She is 9 years as of Oct 2007. Dixie is also the boss of the inside dogs. There are 6 inside dogs and Dixie really has her job cut out for her. Dixie is still doing great.

Diamond was rescued on Oct.3,1998. We were on our way to see the Texas Longhorns play and we had stopped to get gas. There was a stray at the door to the gas station. That stray was Chandler. I bought him some food and went to the back of the gas station and there were four more strays with him. We rescued 4 of them (the other guy would have nothing to do with us). Diamond is a female about 9 years old as of Oct 2007, she is about 47 lbs., short haired and brown. Diamond and Shammy are house dogs. Diamond has lots of grey in her face already. She is also the dog that gets picked on a lot. Diamond was almost killed in April 2004 by a horrific dog fight where everyone ganged up on her. She is still extremely traumatized and she hangs right by me all of the time. We do not allow her in the yard with Denali or with all of the dogs at one time. She pretty much just goes outside to do business and comes back in. We took Diamond on our two month vacation in the summer of 2005 and now she has more status in the pack. She has not been attacked again since April 2004.

Shamrock (Shammy) was rescued on Oct.3,1998. Same story as Diamond's. If you haven't noticed the gas station was a Diamond Shamrock. Shammy is black, about 9 years old as of Oct 2007, 50 lbs. and long haired. Shammy is very sensitive and she tries to stay out of trouble with everyone. Shammy recently had a seizure, but has been ok since. Denali has also been picking on her a little since Diamond gained some status.

Tyler was rescued on Oct.3,1998. Same story as Diamond and Shammy's. Tyler is black, about 9 years old as of Oct 2007, 45 lbs., and short haired with floppy ears. Tyler lives in the dog pen with Mulder. Tyler is a digger and Mulder is a killer, so they are kept in a dog pen. Tyler is graying in the face, but remains healthy.

Chandler was rescued on Oct. 3, 1998. Same story as Diamond, Shammy and Tyler's. Chandle is a chow mix, about 9 years old as of Oct 2007, 45 lbs., and very chow looking. He is also very evasive and barks a lot. He lives in the back with Chelsea. He is settling down some and is really sweet. He has never been sick. He and Mulder are mortal enemies and must be kept away from each other at all times.

Mulder The receptionist at my veterinarian's called me about mid January, 1999 about this sweet little boy. Someone had dumped him and a few other dogs out in the country and another person had brought them in to my vet's office. Mulder only had 2 more days to find a home or they were going to put him to death. I took one look at him and decided I would try to help him. I brought him home hoping to find him a home. When it became obvious that wasn't going to work, we kept him. Mulder is a Rottie in a Beagle body. He is about 45 pounds and as of Oct 2007 is about 9 years old. He is very tough and can whip anyone around here. He is really only a mortal threat to Chandler and Shiloh.

Tatum is a female Jack Russell Terrier. She came to us around the first of July 1999, she was 8 weeks old. Tim's friend had gotten this little puppy for his son. But, his son did not want the puppy. His son wanted a kitten. Tatum is a wonderful little dog and she gets to sleep in the bed. She is 8 years as of Oct 2007. I call her Miss Tatie. Tatum is obsessed with balls and so we do a lot of throwing and kicking the ball around here. Tatum has had a seizure, but not another one that we know of. She is very healthy and is extremely fiesty and can start trouble. My daughter Peyton who is 2 calls her Wild.

Shiloh is a male Rat Terrier. As of Oct 2007 he is almost 7 years old. My husband found Shiloh on the side of the road after a car almost ran over him. He brought him home to me. Shiloh and Bojangles have become best friends and playmates. He is very good and a real joy. His only downfall is that he is an excitable urinator which really makes my husband mad. Shiloh also sleeps in the bed. Shiloh is doing very well.

Denali is a wolfdog. She is part Canadian Timberwolf, Alaskan Tundra Wolf and Malamute (or so the breeder said). She is solid white and beautiful. As of Jan 2006 she is 5 years old. Living with a wolfdog has been a really great experience and somewhat a challenge. She lives in the house and she loves her pack. She is very sweet and playful and has the antics of a comedian. Denali is very healthy and loves our daughter who is 3. Denali can get into fights with some of our other dogs, so we watch them carefuly.

Hemi came up to our house a couple of times in January 2003. As of Oct 2007 I would guess he is about 5. It was so cold outside and he was so thin and limping that we decided to take him in. We posted "Found Dog" signs and nobody claimed him. We named him Hemi because we took him in on the same day we picked up our new Dodge Ram with a Hemi. He is very loveable and gets along wonderfully with our other dogs. In fact he and Denali are the best of friends and play all day long together. Hemi is very healthy and a wonderful pet. He lives in the front yard. His only flaw is that he is very determined to go into the parts of the yard that I want to keep him out. So, I spend a lot of time patching up places that he makes for access to other parts of the yard.

Diego is an American Pittbull and was purchased as a puppy by my ex-son-in-law. After my daughter's marriage ended the dog was pretty much just left out on a chain and neglected. I brought him home in November 2005 when he was about 10 months old, he is now almost 3. He is very sweet, but he is rather wild since he has been neglected for so long. We are working with him and trying to teach him how to behave and play pretty.

Bojangles is the new member of the family. We adopted him from the Humane Society. We actually got him for my mother-in-law who did not want him, so we kept him. It was a wonderful fate and we love this cute, fiesty little dog a lot. He is about 10 months old as of Oct 2007. He is adorable.

These are dogs that have died.

HILLARYdied on June 2, 2006. She was unwell for a few weeks and surgery discovered she had invasive cancer that had invaded her intestines, there was no hope and we let Hillary slip away peacefully during surgery. She is a black with a white chest, female Collie mix who weighs about 80 pounds and she is almost 13 years old as of Jan 2006. She is overweight and I've had her on a restricted calorie diet. Hillary's nicknames are, "Hills", "Billy", "Billy Goat", and "Goat". Hillary knows everyone of these names is hers. Hillary lives in the house. She does not care for strangers, and can bark or cuss a stranger pretty convincingly. We got Hillary in August of 1993. She was being given away at the local Safeway in Conifer, Co. She was the last puppy, and no one seemed to want her. We took her and she is now a best friend. Hillary has developed lots of gray in her face as she has aged. Hillary has developed a cough and has a large breast tumor. The vet thinks it is cancer, but a biopsy was inconclusive. It has gotten much harder for Hillary to get up the stairs.

OKIE died January 2006, she had gotten sick and she died while she was in the care of the Veterinarian. She is a black and white female long haired Chihuahua, who weighs about 6 pounds and about 14 years old as of Jan 2006. Okie's nickname is "Okie-Bokie" or just "Bokie". Okie is a very sweet lap dog. She gets along very well with all of the other dogs. We found her in June 1996, while on a fishing trip to Oklahoma. The vet said it appeared by her condition she had probably been out on her own about 3 weeks. She was eaten up with mange and near death. It took her three weeks to get her strength back and to get rid of the mange. She is very happy today. In Okie's old age she suffers from skin allergies and is having a hard time seeing in the dark. She has also developed a catarack in both eyes.Update- Okie has lost her left eye due to glaucoma. She has become my mother-in-law's dog but not by my choice. Ann allows her to sleep in the bed, so Okie stays with her. Okie is sick right now and is at the vet hospital due to possible kidney failure and something going on with her liver.

CHELSEA died August 2006, she was found dead outside, we do not know the cause but can only speculate it was from age as she was always healthy. She is a white female Great Pyrenees, who weighs about 100 pounds and is about 11 years old as of Jan 2005. She has one blue eye and one brown eye. Chelsea is very sweet. She is a very docile dog. Unless you know her well, you can't tell when she gets excited about things. We found Chelsea in June 1996 on the same fishing trip to Oklahoma that we found Okie. Tim was leaving to go to Sonic to get Okie a hamburger and there was Chelsea in the motel parking lot. We couldn't rescue one and leave the other. Chelsea guards the back yard these days and in her old age she is still healthy and has never had major health issues.

ELUM
Elum had to be euthanized after several strokes left him incapacitated. He died on January 21, 2005.
His story- Tim found Elum in 1990 down a railroad track in Carthage, Tx. Elum is a white, male Labrador mix, who weighs about 55 pounds and is about 13 years old as of Feb 2003. Elum's nickname is "EEeee...". Elum was the sweetest dog we have. Unfortunately, Elum has a disorder that makes him have a form of seizure every time he sleeps. He is also very hyper and has a continuous ticking disorder. In Elum's old age he has developed arthritis in his hips and is on daily medication. He also no longer gets a bad attitude with other male dogs.

CLINT
Clint had to be euthanized after a long battle with an unknown illness. He became paralyzed from the waist down and had severe tremors. His body finally shut down.
His story-Clint is a male German Shepherd mix, he is the same colors as a German Shepherd and weighs about 65 pounds and about 11 years old as of Feb 2003. Clint's nickname is "C". Clint is very sweet but, he has been sort of standoffish. I've noticed here lately that Clint is demanding more petting and loving than he ever has before. He is very powerful, and to put him on a leash is an experience that may land you on the ground being dragged to the destination. We got Clint in July 1993 from a pound in Colorado. The animal control officers had found him and his sister wandering the mountains. Clint is still healthy in his old age, but he has developed a cough that the vet can't figure out. The cough went away, but Clint started showing a weakness in his hind quarters that eventually led to total paralysis.
SABLEI bought Sable in September 1991 for my daughter. Sable is a sable color, female Pomeranian, who weighs about 15 pounds. She is a stubborn little dog who barks more than we want her to, but she has been a best friend for Brandie. Brandie got Sable on her 10th birthday when Sable was only 10 weeks old, so they've grown up together. Sable died suddenly on november 8, 2004 at the age of 13.5 years. She had not been ill, so cause of death is unknown. My daughter had gone to bed about 10 pm and found Sable dead around 5 am. This was a little over a week before my daughter gave birth to her second son.
YETI Tim had Yeti when I met him. Yeti's mother was a stray that Tim found. He was a sweet little white, mixed breed, male dog. He weighs(ed) about 25 pounds, has short little legs and a long body. Yeti's nickname was "Paldog" and Tim called him "My Pal". He was reported to have some pit bull dog in him, which you could see in his face. Yeti is deanimated. He is in cryonic suspension at the Cryonic Institute in Detroit, MI. Yeti deanimated in September of 1993. He had been with Tim for almost 17 years.

Champ We rescued Champ on Nov.24,1997. Champ died of acute pancreatitis on Nov.7,1998. Tim and I had gone to see "Starship Troopers" and after the movie let out, there was a woman in front of the theater trying to give this dog away. He was scared and whining and had been snake bitten. He looked so sad. So, he lives with us now. Champ is a full blooded Dalmatian and he weighs 70lbs. He almost killed Elum so, we had a separate pen built. We had him neutered. More about Champ. here.

Beowulf is a wolfdog. She is part Canadian Timberwolf, Alaskan Tundra Wolf and Malamute (or so the breeder said). Denali is her sister. Wolfie died on June 25, 2001 at 3.5 months of age. She was sick from the time we bought her. Our vet thought she had ectopic ureters, because she was incontinent. Our vet and a couple of other vets also did not think she had a bladder and thought she had malformed kidneys. Our sweet Wolfie died of pulmonary edema which is a complication of kidney failure. We drove her to Detroit, MI to the Cryonics Institute and there she will wait, suspended in time and cold, until she can be healed and revived. She will then get to live for the first time.

Eddy is a German Shepherd. My husband found him abandoned at a boat dock. He was emaciated and in very poor health. We took him to our vet where it was determined he had a bad case of heartworms and other parasites. His feces had cardboard in it for 5 days. Eddy seemed to come out of the heartworm treatment just fine. He lived with us for four months. We started to notice that he never gained much weight and he started stumbling and having spells where he would just fall down. Two weeks after the spells started on May 29th, 2001, Eddy died of pulmonary edema, a complication of his kidney failure. He also had a bad heart from the heartworms.

Yes, we had a cat once.

Tipper/Tip We got Tipper as a 10 week old kitten in 1993. We thought Tipper was a female, but found out 8 months later she was a male. So, Tipper became Tip. Tipper was a very sweet and loving cat. He destroyed our Christmas tree every year, though. Tipper loved our dogs, we only had four then. Tipper became very sick in 1995 and after about a month and lots of vet visits, he died. It was really a horrible death. The vets could never tell us what was wrong with him.
