Greyhound Rescue Austin (GRA), concentrates on rescue/rehab/ placement of Greyhounds (and other sight hounds) from shelters, cruelty seizures, and other distressed situations. Locally--as in much of Texas-- there is considerable activity in field hunting and in unregulated racing. Most of our rescues were once at recognized tracks and then got traded down to this "bush" scene. This is a very hard life and these dogs NEED rescue by the time these hunters/racers will release them. These dogs were sort of falling through the cracks because many G/h rescue groups take their dogs from recognized tracks. We have a number of dogs ready for adoption described (most with pictures) on our website at http://www.constant.com/~rory/gra/

Spindletop American Pit Bull Terrier/American Staffordshire Terrier Rescue
Houston, TX

Spindletop Pit Bull Rescue is a non-profit, one-woman rescue effort to benefit the APBT/AST. Leah has owned both breeds for over 14 years and loves them regardless of registration. She presently owns eight UKC registered APBTs. Leah's rescue effort is totally non-profit, although new owners are asked to pay a small fee. The average cost for each dog's feeding and care is approximately $85 a month, plus neutering or spaying and veterinary care. Some local vets give her a discount, and a local pet store donates a good portion of the food, but she pays for the rest of the costs personally.
