Grunt

Hi I just wanted to day I love your website. I have rescued 3 mixed breed dogs living on the streets. My last rescue-Grunt-is a pitbull mix, 50'lbs. He turned 1yr in 11/00. A friend called my boyfriend and myself in Sept 00 about this dog that was hanging out in the parking lot and walking up construction workers(even though he has been severly abused he is still very sweet to people). He was skin and bones-38lbs.

He had a huge bump on his head that was oozing blood and he had no hair (only scabs) around his neck and throat area. He also had a bad right leg. It was broken while he was living on the streets. He also had another abscess on his body. The dog was the worst looking dog I had ever seen. We took him to our vet who helped him get well and he neutered him. Of course we fell in love with him and planned to keep him. ------too make a long story short, Grunt and my other bigger male dog-Homer sometimes fight.

they used to play together and have a great time but every now and then they get into a fight. i know homer is trying to keep grunt in place because he is the alpha dog but grunt doesn't back down. we used to break up little fights with water but one day 1/11/01, it didn't work and my hand got caught in the middle. Grunt started biting me as i pulled homer away from him.

that week was the worst - grunt, homer and myself were all hurt. we decided that grunt needs to be an only dog or a dog with another female dog in another home. he never fights with our small female dog- actually he is afraid of her. needless to say we were heart broken and still are. we still have grunt ( there is no way i could put grunt in pound or shelter) but we keep him and homer separated at all times- expect for walks and when we are all in a room together and have dogs tied at different corners of the room.

Grunt has probably been living in the streets for his first 9 months of life. He had no socialization or training. He's come a long way and is a smart dog but he will need a really good home where his new owners are knowledgeable about dog training. The last time we brought him to the vet to get an abscess drained from their last fight, the doctor went back to grunts old bump on his head and opened it up. He found 2 be-be gun bullets. that really broke my heart.

i just want to find him a good home. my trainer is looking but i know it will take time. i guess i just wanted to share a bit of my story with someone who also loves dogs. i almost had to be admitted to the hospital because of my hand injury. when i returned back to work some coworker were really insensitive i love my dogs like i would children and it is frustrating when animals are viewed as less important:(

thanks for listening
Patty
