Enjoyed this interview immensely. I think Kaki has a very good point here:

> Mostly I think LAT missed the mark. K/S is written/read mostly because they have such a powerful on screen relationship, because the men (or at least one of them) are sexy to many women, lots of us like to see relationships without the traditional m/f roles and inequalities, ... really, it just works, can be sexy as anything I've ever read, and is a good platform for exploring many issues/situations that we enjoy reading about.<

Exactly.

:)

Gayle is trying to help me figure out how to do it. If I can't manage soon, she may put one up for me on her site.

Interesting to hear how long "Neverias" had been kicking around in Kaki's head. I wonder how many other stories we write work that way--an idea that kinda worries at us for months/years?

Kaki, could you explain how you borrow zines from the KS Press library? Do they publish out of your town? Is it an interlibrary loan kind of thing? Do they have branch libraries? I can't figure it out.

Sounds like you've had the best experience of both print and online fandom--good to hear someone who's found good experiences in both worlds. But that said, I think your remarks about how printfandom had had a certain hiddenness to it, that the online community is undoing--I agree that that's a somewhat threatening idea. I know that for years I looked kind of half-heartedly for this "slash" stuff I'd heard of, and couldn't find it anywhere. But one day I typed stuff into a search engine, and BLAM there were ASCE and R'rain and who knows what else. Tons easier to find, tho also kinda hidden since I think the majority of us don't use RL names.

Thought-provoking interview, Kaki. Thanks, and to you too, Karmen

The K/S Press is a monthly letterzine about "All things K/S" that includes LOC (reviews/comments) on any zine story or art, discussion (moderated), ads for zines, announcements of zines that need stories, and some other stuff. Associated with the K/S Press, but run by two subscribers that are not the editors are two branches of the KSP library - one in the US and one in England. If you are a subscriber to the KSP, you email or snail mail the appropriate librarian. She will mail you up to 3 zines at a time. You may keep them for three weeks, then mail them back with enough money to cover the postage to you. The libraries feature donated out of print zines and some other ST books/magazines.

I've enjoyed having access to the resource. If you want to subscribe to the KSP email JennaST@aol.com. She'll send you the info.

I know I had a hard time finding anything of the sort until I got web access and a good search engine. Now I have all of you. :)

Clarification if I misspoke, I don't think the web K/S will 'out' the zines badly. But I believe there are people who fear that.

Wow, and that works? I'm impressed. I would have expected that people would just keep them and not bother to return them.

I suppose it happens once in a while, but you could only get three that way. The librarians keep up with who has what and when it is due.

I guess it's a small enough community not to have too many troubles of that sort.
