TRI RAIL
This commuter railroad got it's start in 1989. The purpose of it was to provide a temporary solution when I-95 was to undergo some major construction. However, ridership grew, and the system now have been in operation for over 10 years. Tri Rail operates from Miami to West Palm Beach on the CSX line. The line is owned by the State of Florida, but maintained and dispatched by CSX. Occasional CSX freights, and 6 Amtrak trains a day share the line. The route runs along side I-95 most of the way. It offers connections with Airports, local busses, Metro Rail, and Amtrak at certain stations along the route.
Currently, projects to double track the line and rebuild and add new stations are well underway.
