Earth Power & Magick

What is Magick?

Have you ever taken a walk through the woods, and felt the power of the trees surrounding you?  Or have you ever sat in a field, and actually felt a part of it?  If you have, then you've experienced a part of the Earth's natural powers, the force from which magick comes from.  It's this life force that keeps everything together, and continuing on as it has since the beginning of the Earth's time.

The way I think of it is like something similar to the "Force" in the Star Wars movies.  Only, I think of it as broken up into five different parts- Earth, Air, Fire, Wind, and Spirit.  These five things work separately and together to create this encompassing power.  One can tap into the forces of one of this sub categories, or one can tap into all five of them as one.  this "tapping into" these powers is what I think of as magick.  So really, magick is all natural, and created for us by the Mother and Father which created this life force, including us.  Magick is just a part of our world, and therefore a natural part of us humans.

Is Magick real?

The answer to this question would vary, depending on who you ask.  Ask any Wiccan, and they'll tell you- you bet!  Since magick is created by nature and life, it exists within and about everything.  It penentrates everything of this Earth, acting sort of like the spiritual glue, although not many people really know it.  The magick is there to allow us to be able to have more control over our lives, and to be able to guide ourselves in a happy, productive life.  The more you believe in it, the more real magick is.

As an example of what I mean by all this, I'll use an experience I had not too long ago.  I was calmly resting on my bed, meditating, and holding my crystal in my right (sending) hand, trying to connect to my boyfriend, who was in Myrtle Beach.  I was actually trying just to feel his presence, and allow him to feel mine, even though he wouldn't understand what was really happening.  After focusing and raising the images of him, I raised by right hand (with the crystal) out towards the window, and pushed all the power I had been raising out, to go connect with him.  Moving the crystal to my left hand, I relaxed once again, and allowed my spirit and crystal to absorb more energy once again, so that we would not become drained.  After feeling like the balance had been re-created, I repeated the same steps with my right hand.  Now I felt as if the proper amount of energy had been raised, so I brought myself a bit out of my meditative state.  Looking down at my crystal, I realized how much it had just done, and how I wanted to somehow balance the energies in it, without me interfering too much with my vibes.  So what I did was I had this glass bowl with some stones and rose petals in it, and I visualized them as being able to absorb any negative or harmful energies from the crystal, and create harmonizing energies to help balance the crystal's energies.  After feeling like the stones were ready, I placed my crystal upon them, and put the bowl down next to me.  No later than two minutes after I did this, all of a sudden torrents of rain started pouring down.  And I mean torrents- the rain was pounding down on my windows!  The experience was incredible- the energy I had raised w/ the crystal had been released when i placed it with the stones, to balance it all out.  I feel like the "leftover" energy left in the crystal was being released, so that it would not become over-worked.  The downpour only lasted about five minutes, then it slackened off to a slight drizzle, and then nothing for quite some time.  Amazed, I leaned back in my bed, and pondered all this.  Indeed there was real energy being Raised and released, it was all real.  Magick and the forces of nature are real, they do exist.  This was proof enough for me.

How is Magick Used?

The answer to this would also vary, depending on who you ask.  But since this is my space to share my thoughts, I'll explain it in my own words.

Magick is used in a variety of ways.  First off, when I say "used", I mean a living being such as you or me tapping into this life force around them, and being able to use it to improve things, or for help or guidance.  Magick can be used for a variety of things, too- help, clarity, comfort, improvement, anything!  Preferably only good things, for the rule of magick that must never be forgotten is this- if you use magick in any negative way what so ever (even if you don't think it seems harmless, but it affects another person who does not know about it, and may not want it) it will come back to you, only three times worse than whatever your original intentions were.  So it works like karma, only a bit more seriously.  This is to ensure the proper use of magick, and not abuse of it.

Okay, you've understood about tapping into the magick- now what?  Well, this all depends on what you plan on doing.  I like to go about it in a three step plan that I read about in Wicca, A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner, by Scott Cunningham.  First, the true need for the magick must be felt.  This means not the need like, "I need to win this $20!" or anything like that.  A true need would be more like, "I plan on creating a spell that will bring more love into my life."  Once the need is truly felt, you must visualize what you want the outcome to be.  For example, if I was to work a spell for love, I would visualize myself feeling more love around me, whether it be in another person, or just my environment- you must create what you want to come about in your mind.  After your intentions and goals are made known to yourself, then you are ready to use magick to help you accomplish your original intention.  At least, that's how I interpretided it.  If anyone reading this has any opinions on what I've just said, don't hesitate to let me know!  (Email me at Violytte_Skye@excite.com.  I really want to hear from y'all!)
