When The War Began Yesterday

I wondered what the war was like?
I was so excited I told my friends
I went down the road, on my bike
I saw hardly no one in town
I heard a strange sound, the war has begun
People running everywhere on the streets
There were lots of men armed, and my father with a gun
He told me to get on the trailer of the truck
The disappearance of a peaceful day
My friend called my name, I said "stop the truck"
But the truck did not stop and the call has faded away
I missed my mother and father and my friends
I was so terrified of the war, I would never forget the day I left him there

My eyes began to fall in big tears
I wondered where my friends could be, I wish I knew where
I wished this had never happened
There was no silence, a sound of guns and bombs
I wondered when the war was going to end
There were dead bodies, lying down from Gallipoli cliff
There were people beginning to be poor
They begged for money, but no hope at all
There were dirty floors covered in the mud of war
I tried not to think of war but it reminds me day after day
Dust flying up in the fresh and clean air
That covered the sky, the darkness of haunts and terror
Our army was below the cliff, the enemy was not fair
People had to go to war, some people were brave
One peaceful night there was the sound of an owl hooting
The enemy crept upon the cliff
One step more, began the sound of shooting

Once the war was over, there was a silence of singing birds
At last there was peace, and people came out of the darkness
The sun came out, the clouds disappeared
There was an award for my father, it said "there will be peace and brightness".
