Just a little about Union County, Kentucky.

Union County is mostly farming and coal mining..Right now there is very little industry in the county but the Economic Development Foundation is working on bringing more industry into the county. Right now we have the coal mines, Trelleborg Yshe Rubber plant (auto products), Sonoco (paper),Ray-Loc (auto products). There will be a new plant opening probably early 1999 that will make plastic auto parts also a new car body shop being built. These are all located in Morganfield Industrial Park. The Sturgis Industrial Park houses a sweatshirt, pants and shorts industry and a cable t-v industry. There was just recently a new golf course added at the Sturgis fairgrounds. A new business will be arriving in Union County in the year 2000. Sykes Enterprises computer help lines are locating here, they will be providing around 400 jobs. Welcome Sykes, we are glad to have you.

Travel an hour and you can be at Kentucky Lake or Lake Barkley areas.. Large recreation sites..Also near Morganfield is Moffit Lake.. good camping and swimming and fishing area.

Union County High School and Union County Middle School are located halfway between Sturgis and Morganfield. There are elementary schools located in Sturgis, Morganfield and Uniontown. There is also a Catholic school, St. Ann's, located in Morganfield.

Union County Methodist Hospital is also located near the high school. Also the Ambulance service. Rescue squads are located in Sturgis, Morganfield and Uniontown.. and we give our thanks to all of them.

During World War II an airport was built near Sturgis. It is one of the largest in the state but no commercial flights. The airport is home to several private planes.

The Union County Fairboard has just recently been the recipient of a $900,000.00 grant from the state to build new barns and an indoor arena.

One of the many murals done by German POW's at the Old Camp Breckinridge Army Officers Club..Done during 1940's.. The Fiscal Court was also just recently awarded a $1,000,000.00 grant from the state to renovate the old Camp Breckinridge officer's club. When done this will house the Union county museum. To see more about the officers club and the murals done by POW's during World War II. These murals are to be restored by an artist and will be left on the walls as they are.Union Co. Link.

Courthouse Morganfield, KY. County Seat for Union County.

This is the courthouse where I work..Elected officials are the County Judge, Magistrates, County Attorney, County Clerk, County Sheriff, PVA, and Circuit Court Clerk..all but the Circuit court offices are in the courthouse..AOC built a new courts building two years ago, so now we have much more room in the old courthouse..The Fiscal Court runs the county business. In Kentucky the County Treasurer is appointed to 4 year terms by the Fiscal Court.
