Its story is based on an actual old ghost-haunted Taiwanese village, and on the people who followed or betrayed their roots. Even though remote and surrounded by river and mountains, the wind of the "new world" blew in: the US military, the Vietnam war, the ambitious investors, the new tycoons who returned with heavy gold necklaces around their necks, and well dressed men from other towns seen for the first time by the women.
The panic and long hidden desires of some of the villagers began. Older residents did all the religious ceremonies to expel the ghost who was said to harass the villagers' hearts and capture their souls.
But the ghost of desire never died…
