Andra / Aner

In Biblical Greek, the word signifying an adult male human....either representing one individual, adult, male, non-married OR married human in particular or other individual, adult, male, non-married OR married humans....is: aner.

In contrast, the word signifying a MARRIED, adult, male human and/or other MARRIED, adult, male humans....is: andra.

Obviously and logically, the two words are NOT synonymous, because all "husbands" are "adult male humans".....but not all "adult male humans" are "husbands."

Also, in Biblical Greek, the word signifying an adult female human....either representing one individual, adult, female, non-married OR married human in particular or other individual, adult, female, non-married OR married humans....is: gyne.

In contrast, the word signifying a MARRIED, adult, female human and/or other MARRIED, adult, female humans....is: gynaika, portrayed with various grammatical letter endings.

Again, obviously and logically, the two words are NOT synonymous, because all "wives" are "adult female humans".....but not all "adult female humans" are "wives."

In the English language, woman and women refer only to adult FEMALE humans...but never to adult MALE humans. However, the word man can - unfortunately and to cause confusion - refer to EITHER gender, which is one of the gross and hideous deficiencies of the English language, especially within our present sexist vs. patriarchial society where men frequently get the blame for what women should instead be blamed for (see 1st Timothy 2:14). That serious semantical deficiency is adequately compensated for by using the gender-inclusive word: human.

The equivalent words for "human" in Biblical Greek....are: anthr(o)pos [pronounced an-THROH-pahss], anthr(o)p(o) [pronounced an-THROH-poh], anthr(o)pou [pronounced an-THROH-poo], or anthr(o)pon [pronouced an-THROH-pahn].....depending upon grammatical sentence structure and/or singularity compared with plurality. It is, of course, from anthr(o)pos that we get our word: "anthropology" which - as you are well aware - consists of BOTH genders. Those words fortunately represent BOTH genders relating to vital and crucial principles and responsibilities involving awareness and cognition relating to moral and immoral perception having both temporal and eternal consequences of reward and punishment.

Thus, when anthr(o)pos is used in Scripture (and it frequently is), the entities referred to are BOTH primarily-meant and secondarily-meant male and female humans, so that "man" is not nor are "men" (apart from woman and women) misconsidered the sole cause of all of "man"-kind's failures, shortcomings, sins, and misery in thoughts and actions. Even when anthr(o)pos and its root-based grammatical letters-ending variations are used in male-with-female relationships, the underlying doctrine and dogma principles apply for BOTH genders.
