I think its time to fill
in a few facts about my mother, who is a remarkable woman.
She left me in the dust when it came to energy, and the joy of life. No matter how I tried to emulate her, I just
didnt have what it took. Her writing
career started when she entered a contest from a local furniture company. The movie Mr.
Blandings Builds His Dream House, was just opening, and the furniture store had this
contest, the old 25 words or less on why I like the furniture in the home
Well lo
and behold she won a beautiful maple rocking chair, and since they were in the process of
building a home in the country on 80 acres, it all just seemed to go together. The
newspaper decided to run a feature on her, her home, and the trials and tribulations of
building etc. She was later talking to the editor of the newspaper and told him I
think I could write a column about country living, home, family etc. Well he
laughingly said well send me one and well see, and that was the beginning. She had a lot of fans, and when
she retired, she wanted to finally tell everyone who Hannah was, so she found and old sun
bonnet, and dress similar to the logo. They
were getting ready to retire also the old leg of the train that ran along her property
line, so she decided she wanted to drive the train, and that she did dressed in Hannah
garb. They wrote a wonderful final farewell
to Hannahs column, complete with pictures of her herding that train. It was a riot. Unfortunately I cant
locate all her columns, but those that I did find I wanted to put in these pages, in hopes
that others will enjoy them too. Im
afraid we all used to fluff her off when we were busy and she wanted to read them to us at
various times, but with age comes appreciation and understanding, and I love reading them
now, and though some are tattered and torn, I hope you enjoy them too. |
