Southern
Counties Football League
Sixth
version 1927-1937

overview |
After a series of meetings
by the Southern Counties FA in 1927, the Southern Counties League was
re-formed with the St Cuthbert Cup being awarded to the winners. Seven clubs
intimated that they would take part, with only Whithorn declining the invite.
When the league finally got under way, Garlieston and Wigtown & Bladnoch
had withdrawn although Creetown had joined. As in most of the previous
attempts the league was unfinished but the following season saw the league
expand to ten clubs, split into Northern and Southern sections. The league
reverted to a single division for the rest of its history except in 1932-33.
This season saw the inclusion of three Wigtownshire clubs in a Western
section. However this had no bearing on where the title would end up as the
Eastern section winners were declared champions. By 1937 the league had been
losing its importance as more emphasis was put on the cup competitions and
the competition was ultimately dropped from the fixture list. |
