South of Scotland League 1892-93

South of Scotland League 1946-date

The first attempt at league football in the South West came the year after the first non-League competitions had appeared. However due to the clubs preferring to play in cup competitions and traditional friendlies most of the fixtures weren't played and the competition was subsequently abandoned.

The second, present version was formed in 1946. The new league couldn’t use the name Southern Counties League because two of its members, the reserve XIs of Ayr United and Kilmarnock were not members of the Southern Counties FA.
