(1916). Founder of the Catalan Society of
Biology (1912) and the Institute of
Physiology (1921). The Institute of
Physiology was a center of excellence in
biomedical research. After the Spanish
Civil War (1936-1939), August Pi i
Sunyer, exiled to Venezuela, created in
Caracas a new School of Physiology, the
"Instituto de Medicina Experimental".
