 1298The Battle of Falkirk. Scottish pikemen were cut to pieces by English longbowmen.
 1499Battle of Dornach. Swiss pikes and halberds once again prove to be invincible. Switzerland will not be attacked for another 200 years.
 1805Third Battle of Cape Finisterre, British damage French fleet but French manage to escape in fog.
 1812Battle of Salamanca. Wellington won the battle but the French forced him back to Portugal anyway.
 1943Americans under Patton capture Palermo, Sicily.
