Parallels Between Jesus' Two Hard Discourse Teachings

Therefore the Jews were grumbling about Him, because He said, "I am the bread that came down out of heaven." They were saying, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does He now say, `I have come down out of heaven'?" Jesus answered and said to them, "Do not grumble among yourselves. (John 6:41-43)

The Jews reject Jesus' claim that he came down from heaven for they know the parents who raised Him from birth, though Jesus has spoken the truth to them. He did come down from heaven, but they do not yet know about the Incarnation; that the Son of God came down from heaven, was born of the Virgin Mary, and became man. Only faithful disciples would come to fully appreciate this truth in time.
Similarly, the Jews dismiss Jesus' commands to eat his flesh and drink his blood, though Jesus has spoken the truth to them. He would give them his flesh to eat and blood to drink, but they do not yet know about Holy Communion. Only faithful disciples would come to fully appreciate this truth in time.
