"MacGyverisms"

An emergency
lock-up

When you're on an organized ride, riding with friends or a bike club, security is no problem because there is usually someone who will watch your bike so no one will steal it.

However, if you're out on your own, you don't have this luxury. If you're on a tour, the thought of carrying a cable lock is not distressing, but when you're travelling light, or on a day ride, it's hard to bring yourself to carry along the extra weight.

Well, there is a low-tech solution. And since it's something which is already on your bike, It won't add an ounce.

The answer is right between your ankles. Your bike's drive chain. You can use a chain breaker or one of the "quick release" links that allow you to take your chain off without tools.

Granted, it's "low security", But the casual thief probably doesn't have a chain breaker, knows nothing about these special links, and probably doesn't relish the thought of trying to get away with your bike without a chain anyways.

Of course, if a profesional want's your machine, nothing is going to stop him. But even he might be a little discouraged by the fact that he won't be able to ride away with "his" prize.

Neat idea! What's next? -->
