February, 1816 in Sussex County, Virginia. The name may be found spelled Bane or Bain in reference to the same person in

Britton Bane served as a private in Captain Thomas Infantry Company, Eighth Virginia Militia Regiment during the War of

1812. He brought his family to Tennessee after the war and eventually settled along the Sandy River on land that became

Benton County in 1836.

From Carol:

I'm looking back over my information to see why I originally thought that Brittian was son of

James Bain, Jr. born in 1748.

The will (have extract only) of James Jr. in 1831 mentions "I give land to my four daughters

(Elizabeth, Lucy, Sarah/Sally, Celia) as neither of my sons or grandaughter have rendered me

any services in my old age. [83 yrs old]. The four daughters seem not to have been married in 1831.

Sarah married Frederick Briant - 6/27/1837. So the granddaughter would have been a daughter of

one of the two sons not named. Brittain had two or more daughters at this time according to Carrie

Bomar, a descendant of Brittain. The first one born about 1818 in Kentucky.

The will says wife of 50 years and up, but does not name. Would have married prior to 1784.

Littleberry born 1775, father James but no name for mother. The daughters if born in the

timeframe, say 1780 to 1800 would have been spinsters if not married by the time of the will in 1831. And

Sarah would have married at an old age of 37. Seems odd but not impossible. In fact, I see

from the 1850 Sussex Co. census that Elizabeth Bain age 60 was head of household and with here were Lucy

age 58 and Celia age 54. So they were spinters!

The census of 1810 (don't have 1800) shows for James: 1 male 45 up, 1 male 16-26 (born

1784-1794), 2 F 16-26, 3 F 26-45, 1 F 45 up. The male would have been born ca. 1784-1794. Carrie Bomar

placed Britain's birth between 1780-1790 as he was between 40-50 in the 1830 Humphrey Co. census. Mary

head of household in 1840 in Humphrey Co., TN. (note name MARY)

Albermarle Parish Register - Littleberry Bain son of James Bain and ? born 3 June 1775,

sponsors John and Jesse Bane, Lucy Blaton. Believe a wife of this James was Amy Blaton. So Lucy

probably her sister or mother and Jesse and John were brothers of James. Littleberry was in the War of

1812 (6th Regiment, VA militia) as was Britton/Brittain. Brittian's age fits with Littleberry.

Littleberry was a surname in the area as was Brittain. You may want to look at the Brittains

in the area to help make connections.

Brittain's War of 1812 record show that he was in Norfolk in 1814, 90 miles from home, Sussex

Co. (if I'm reading my notes right). He married Polly (Mary) Jerry 27 Feb 1816 in Sussex Co. So

the Brittain who died in Benton Co., TN, had a wife Mary according to census records (then this may

the same Brittain from Sussex Co. How many Brittian Bains would have a wife named Mary.

So it seems that Brittain was from Sussex Co. I have a lot of info on the Bains in Sussex Co.

and could never find another good possibility other than James as the father of Brittain. It is

possible that the family totally lost touch and James Sr. nad he did not know he had more than

one grand child at the time of his will in 1831.I'm not sure what happened to Littleberry, maybe

killed in War of 1812.

My notes show for the index to War of 1812 Britton Bains (see also Benjamin Bains). Both names

are shown in the 4th Regiment, VA Militia. Wonder if this means he was also called Benjamin or

merely a mistake.

I see that William Jerry was the surety and witness for the marriage of Britain and Polly. Have

you checked wills or deeds of the Jerry family to see if Polly and Britain are mentioned? Brittain

had a grandson named John Benjamin.

A daughter of Jesse Bain born 1747, brother of James Bain married Littleberry Jennings. Again

the Littleberry surname. Jesse's son John was the executor of James, Jrs. estate.

The estate of John Bain, Sr. son of James Bain, Sr., brother of James Bain, Jr.:

1814/1815 - cash paid: (long list contains following Bains)

Peggy, Anna, Nancy, Elijah, Britton, James, Lemuel, Willie. I did not note why cash was

paid--but does not mean they were heirs. But I had not focused on the name Britton here before!!! Maybe

I should take another look to see why I thought Britton was not the son of John. I also do not

show James as a son of John but have the others listed above as children of John. So maybe this

James was brother of John and Britton son of James. Then again maybe Britton was the son of John!

Brittain did name a son John. I'll review this some more as soon as I get a chance. And I

think we need a full copy of the estate accounting of John. Don't think he had a will.

The tree you sent me has all WARRICKS, I went back through all the Marriage's listed in the DAR Book 1837-1900 and only found 3 Warnick's, the rest was listed as WARRICKS, including LUCY A WARRICK, on her marriage license it states LUCY ANN WARNICK m. R L GEORGE, could this be because the person that copied this information read WARNICK as WARRICK or do you think the originial name was WARRICK and they just started using the name WARNICK, this is the same thing with DAVID WARMICK, all the children are WARRICK'S, for what I can figure out none of the family was educated, including my Grandmother Lucy, I can not remember her ever writing anything, except her signature and you couldn't read it as Warnick or Warrick, even my Dad( Cecil) didn't know, on all the papers that I have from him he states WARRICK or WARNICK, we always prounanced it WARNICK.I talked to my cousin Ruth last week about this and she says MA Greer(LUCY) only went to the 3rd grade, and she remembers MA stating, her dad spelled his name different, she (Ruth) doesn't know what MA meant by this. Well so much for that, will never know for sure.

Lucy is not listed in any census until 1870. in the 1900 census it lists born date as May 1870

Lucy was born in Benton Co Tn and died Sept 25,1945 at Rt 1, Dover Arkansas and was buried

next to John Harrison Greer at The New Bethel Cem. Plainview (Yell Co.) Arkansas.

Lucy lived with Cecil and Ruby Greer, and sons Don,Dallas ,Bill until she died at home on the

South Side of Big Piney Rd. next to a family by the name of Lee Freeman to the east and a

Leanord Zeh family from Illionis to the west and a Bill Jones family beyond the Zeh Farm.

The Zeh family had 12 kids.

Lucy A. and Robert Lee (R.L.) George license was signed by a Rev. W.S. Brewer.

County Clerk was a W.A. Steele Jr.

Lucy Ann Warrick's dad used the name WILLIAM WARRICK, in the Benton Co, TN Marriage Book it states LUCY ANN WARRICK but on Lucy Ann 's marriage license to Robert Lee George she married as LUCY ANN WARNICK

**********

Dal, You may already have this date...but ran across this in some court

records being indexed. Lucy & Robert L. George DIVORCED on August 19,

1893 in Benton County.

On Lucy Ann's marriage license to John Harrison Greer she was married as Lucy Ann George.

Information From Norma Watson

about Christian Brewer

Sorry Dallas....can't help you on this one. I also checked the marriages

listings I had from 1837 - 1870. I don't believe my lists are fully (listed as Thomas M. Greer. Dal)

complete so your Thomas Wesley Greer could be there. I also checked my

Tn. Gen. Web Marriage lists for about 1846 and up and couldn't locate

anything. Also my Henry County and Decatur marriage lists, plus the

marriage lists from the Benton Genealogical Society. Maybe he will turn

up yet. Will keep an eye out for him.

This name Christian and Christine gets mixed up in the Brewer Line. I had

Christine Brewer married to Daniel Thomas Brewer and it should have been

Christian. Checked through all my Brewer family names and found only one

other Christian Brewer but she was born in 1862. I only have her parents

names - Malcolm Monroe Brewer and Sarah (nee ?). The other children's

names were Bella, Lydia Ann, Calla, William and Nancy. No Thomas! That

Thomas Wesley Greer rings a bell, but I must have read his name somewhere

when researching. Wish I could be of more help. By the way, where in your

file do you show a Thomas Wesley Greer? I checked the file you sent me and

I can't locate him.

Good luck with your research. Stick to your guns. You sound like you have

more logically reasoned out and researched why you think yours is correct.

Hope you are right! Norma

Collins Family of Tennessee & Kentucky

Francis Collins was my great-great-grandfather. He was born in South Carolina on March 11, 1791. Francis became a well-known traveling (circuit) Methodist Preacher. He married Alice Brown(e) of Tennessee in about 1827. They probably were married in Stewart County, Tennessee. Alice died in 1829 after giving birth in Stewart County to their only child, James Monroe Collins. Francis' name first appears on the 1840 Stewart County Census (possibly not sooner due to his travels). Francis died in 1844 in Stewart County. If anyone traces his parentage back in time, please send me an e-mail with the detail. I would like to know more about him and his origins.

My great-grandfather was James Monroe Collins. He was born in Dover, Stewart County, on January 2, 1829 (100 years and 58 days before me). He married Mary Jane O'Barr in Stewart County on January 8, 1850. Mary Jane was born in Stewart County about 1829 and died about 1890. They lived in Big Sandy, Benton County, Tennessee, and had 14 children: 1) William Francis 1851, 2) Nancy Ann 1852, 3) James W. 1854, 4) Robert S. 1856, 5) Henry R. 1857, 6) Newton M. 1858, 7) L. Margarette 1861, 8) Daniel Richard 1862, 9) J. Thomas 1865, 10) George L. 1866, 11) Mary Ann 1868, 12) Emaline M. 1870, 13) Lafayette "Tate" 1872, and 14) Anderson 1874. James Monroe died in Benton County, Tennessee, sometime after 1887.

My grandfather was Daniel Richard Collins. His nickname was Dick. Dick was born in Benton County in 1862 (exact date unknown). He married Ellen Cuff (location and date unknown). I have no records on my grandmother, Ellen, except I think she died in August 1930 or 1931. They had 5 children: 1) J.P. 18??, 2) Walter Harrison 1887, 3) DeWitt ????, 4) Hedy or Fanny ????, and 5) Irene 1911. I do not know where they lived originally, except Walter's (my Dad's) birth certificate indicates that he was born in Camden, Benton County. Sometime later, they moved to Harris, Tennessee. Dick died in Union City, Tennessee, when I was 16-years old. His services were on the day the first atom bomb was dropped on Japan (8-?-1945). Dick is buried at the Methodist Cemetery at McConnell, Tennessee. Irene married J.C. Robey from South Fulton, Tennessee. Irene lived in Union City when she died on March 14, 1990. Irene's son, Robert L. Robey, lives in Olive Branch, MS. He retired as Principle of a high school in Memphis. His e-mail address is: robeyrl@msn.com.

My father was Walter Harrison Collins (sometimes known as Pat Collins). As mentioned above, he was born in Camden, Tennessee, on October 9, 1887. Dad worked for the I.C.R.R. as a boilermaker and later became boiler inspector. Dad married my mother, Hattie Emma Hazotte, in Paducah, Kentucky, on December 7, 1922. I am their only child. Dad died in Paducah, Kentucky, on August 22, 1963.

I was born in Paducah, McCracken County, Kentucky, on March 1, 1929. I married Billie Ruth McElroy on

November 5, 1949. We have two daughters: 1) Rose Ann Collins Fiorita and 2) Mary Kathryn Collins Lane. I am a retired business consultant.

If anyone has any information that will help fill in the gaps, please let me know.

Notes for Henry T. Bain:

Henry and Mary Bain were from Benton Co, TN and it is thought they lived in the Camden area. On the 1860 census they

are in Benton Co, TN. Henry was in the Civil War and captured at Trenton where he was sent to Camp Chase. He was

released or traded but was captured again at Union City, TN in March 1864 and sent to Andersonville Prison, then

transfered to Millen Prison where he died in the Fall of 1864. Not long after the war Mary and their children moved to

Jackson Co, IL, she may have came with her brother in law, John T Bain. Accord to my great grandmother, Mariah Young,

the Bain's family settled on the north side of Snider Hill. I have been unable to find any land records on this, although it is

known that grandchildren of Henry and Mary lived on the south side of Snider Hill in recent times. Mary appears on the 1870

census for Jackson Co, IL in Makanda Twp along with her children. Mary Bain remarried to George S Pomeroy. George is

the Uncle of her daughter, Melvina's husband. On the 1880 census George and Mary remain in Jackson Co, IL. George was

a teacher and magistrate.
