Earthquake
A rumble pulsates through the earth.

Sleepy eyelids peel open.

The rumble explodes into a roar.

And it hits.

Moonlight-smeared windows rip
Shadow-splattered trees vibrate
Beaming streets slither like white-streaked serpents
Light-checkered structures sway

Eyelids clench in a death grip.

Gas pipes burst erecting poles of fire
Traffic lights blink shooting glass bullets
Buildings reel into the ground
Freeways crunch and crack like ice

The roar shrinks into a murmur.

Eyelids creak open.

Blood distorts the view.
