Beer-Nuts Wins it!
Last week, Gary the Ghost Kasper made the save of the year when he robbed Beer-Nuts with a quick glove save. This week, Beer-Nuts avenged that robbery with a goal on his first shift. The Blues were loaded with young talent. Duffer GOD (Grandson of a Duffer) Mike Lopatka, brought one of his Downers Grove South High School teammates. They also had Tommy Z, Tommy M and “The Prince” while the Whites were loaded with old timers. |
Jeff Lopez,
scored for the Blues but Johnny Z and Ken Lopatka evened the score at 2-2.
The expected blow out never materialized as Gary the ghost kicked every
thing out. The Blues came on strong with a Morgan goal that was disallowed
with an offside call and Harvey launched an air bomb that found its way
into the net with the help of a friendly glove. The Beer-Nut
goal stood up as the Meaningful winner.

They then went to Peoria to see the Rivermen beat the Johnstown Chiefs, 4-3 in overtime. Beer-Nuts and Peoria Pete were there to cheer on the Rivermen. |

Rivermen Drown the Chiefs!
The Rivermen had 10 days off following their Northern Conference
Quarterfinal series sweep of the Dayton Bombers. Johnstown had an
8-day hiatus from hockey and both met in a sloppy game in Peoria on Sunday,
in front of 2,403 rabid fans. To the delight of the home crowd, Peoria
rallied with 2 third period goals by Aaron Boh and were forced into overtime
when Kris Porter scored just 6 minutes into the 3rd period. Halfway through
the overtime Blaine Fitzpatrick gave his team a one-game lead in the series
following a thrilling 4-3 finale. Peoria's Joe Rybar scored the game's
first goal 10:33 into the opening period, the lone score of the first
20 minutes. Johnstown's Carl Fleury tied the game 1:53 into the 2nd
period and then the Chiefs took their only lead of the game just 5:53 into
the 2nd period. Boh's scores came barely 4 minutes apart, his first just
30 seconds into the final period to tie the game and the go ahead score
came 4:33 into the final frame. Peoria outshot the visitors by a 40-28
margin. Game two is Tuesday in Peoria with game 3 in Johnstown on Friday.
Game 4, if necessary will be on Saturday in Johnstown, with game 5 back
in Peoria, on Monday, April 24, if needed.
Rivermen Fan Trip
