Silas Crawford McIntire was born to David Shepherd McIntire and Katherine Bonar on August 29, 1820, in Belmont County, Ohio.  He was one of ten children.  Tradition states that David and his family took their possessions on a river flatboat from Ohio Co., WV to Powhatan Point, Belmont Co., State of Ohio.  They settled near Steinersville, aboutt 2 miles up Captina Creek from Powhatan Point.

Late in 1856 Silas moved to Marshall County, WV, and built a log cabin about one and one-half mile off of Burch Ridge in Franklin District.

Silas was a Republican and attended Grace Chapel Methodist church.  He was a deputy sheriff for a time and spent his lifetime farming.
