Empennage |
The empennage kit will be the starting point for our RV-7 project. It will allow us to get used to the construction methods and techniques on a managable and affordable (in case of a shallow learning curve equalling replacement parts) section. The UPS truck arrived with the two boxes containing most of the parts needed to build the empennage. A few of the parts had to be back ordered, apparantly this is going to be another very popular aircraft at upcoming fly-ins. Aside from these few items, everything checked good with the inventory. Now...time to build!! |
The empennage/wing jig was built with 4x4s for the end posts and 2 2x4s stacked for the horizontal. This way, if the top board gets to beat up from drilling, etc. it can easily be replaced without affecting the lines of the jig. |
The horizontal stabilizer aft spar about ready to be taken apart for finishing and priming. |
note: I have already ordered more Clecos. I thought I could get through the empennage with what came with the first kit, but I am going to need them well before that. I also ordered a new piece of angle aluminum for the front spar. I felt I overtapered the first one, leaving the outboard rivet hole to close to the edge for my comfort. Better safe. |
