John Smart, of Exeter (Newmarket), came from county Norfolk to Higham in 1635 with wife and two sons (Cushing mss., Reg. 15:37). He did not sign the Exeter comb., but shared in divisions in Dec. 1639, Lists 375ab, 376ab.

ROBERT SMART (Jr.) was born in 1646 in Exeter, New Hampshire and died before July of 1718. He married (1) on 25 Sep 1674 to Eleanor Pratley He married (2) Mary or Elizabeth Burley. In November of 1677, they lived in Dover, now Jurham. On 25 August 1684 John Woodman, Constable, swore that Robert Smart, Jr. lived at Oyster River, a Precinct of Dover, New Hampshire, for the tax lists of 1684 which were sent to London.

Caleb moved to Goshen, Croydon and then before the American Revolution to Hophins-Hopkinton, New Hampshire. He fought in the Revolutionary War. He married about 1752 to Rebecca Durrell, daughter of Zebulon Durrell and Judith Keniston.

CHARLES SMART was born in 1767 in Hopkinton, New Hampshire, and died about 1839 in Orange, Meigs County, Ohio. He was a millright. In 1819 Charles moved the entire family, except his son Gardner, to Ohio and settled in Meigs County, on the east branch of the Shade River. He was buried in the "brick school house grave yard" in Orange. Charles married (1) Silence Gardner and (2) Molly (Mary) Joy. Silence is buried in Orange, Meigs County, Ohio. His widow died in Pomeroy, Ohio, and was buried beside him in Orange. Silence died in Pomeroy, Ohio.

She married on 13 Dec 1791 in Grafton, Grafton County, New Hampshire or in Nottingham West Township, Hillsboro, New Hampshire. Sewell (Sewall) was the son of Thomas Hale and Sarah Barrett. The 28 Apr 1847 Quincy, IL Whig Newspaper printed that - Sewell Hale, Sen, aged 55 years, formerly of Meigs County, OH died near Newton on 5 Apr 1847. Sewell's tombstone states d 5 April 1847 - 55y 4m. Sarah's tombstone states Wife of Sewall and was 52y, 11m, and 6d. They are buried in Richland "Cook" Cemetery, east of Payson, Illinois.
