SH'LASSAN EMPIRE:  this is a human-dominated nation outside the human mainstream.  It's capital is the world of Sh'lassa Regix, and it also includes the planet Akdor.  Ruled by a line of Emperors since their ancestors left Earth/Holy Terra to colonize Sh'lassa Regix in the 22nd Century A.D., the Sh'lassa people have maintained a feudal, largely low-tech society with a strict hierachy of Emperor, nobility, and commoners centuries before the rise of the Hawkwoods, Decados, Hazat, Lihalan, and al-Malik.  The original religion of these people, a combination of Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, and other old Earth faiths, has mostly been replaced by that of the Universal Church of the Celestial Sun, especially the conservative sects, and the Merchant League guilds have increasingly dominated the local economy.  The Sh'lassan royal government among the Holy terran Royal Houses tends to favor Houses Hawkwood, Hazat, and Lihalan over the Decados and the al-Malik.
ABBAI MTRIARCHY:  Composed of the homeworld of Abba and Untriel, both watery planets, this is the government of the amphibious race of the Abbai, who are governed by an all-female ruling council.  The Abbai have a philosophy that is largely pacifistic.  Human traders, diplomats, and missionaries from the Merchant League, Royal Houses, and Universal Church have found the Abbai to be fairly open-minded regarding human ideas and influences.
ANTAREANS:  these are a race of humanoids with slightly enlongated, tapered skulls and fingers, and are used to living at higher temperatures than humans.  Their homeworld of Antreus is composed of an ultra-hot equatorial region and two relatively (for Antereans) cool polar regions.  Two other planets outside the home solar system, Anasi and Holuva, are home to large Anterean colonies.  The Antereans mostly worship the Great Maker, but human missionaries from the Universal Church are slowly converting more of them to Pancreator worship.  The old oligarchial regime of the Vakalan Confederacy, which had governed the Anterean race, was toppled in a revolution in the period 2556-2560 and replaced by a true democracy lasting to this day.
BALOSIANS:  this is a race of reptilians who spent 200,000 years living underground to environmental changes to the planet Balos.  Centuries ago, the Centauri republic occupied the Balosian's native planet, and later left, leaving behind technological junk that allowed the Balosians to move into space.  During the Dilgar War of the early 23th Century A.D. pitting Earth/Holy Terra and the League of Non-Aligned Worlds against the savage Dilgar Imperium, the Balosians developed a reputation as fierce fighters, and centuries thereafter they often were employed by other races as mercenaries.  The human guilds of the Merchant League do some business with the Balosians, but Universal Church clergy find few converts among this race.
BRAKIRI SYNDICRACY:  this is the government of the native race of the planet Brakos, and it is led by appointees of the corporations which provide both political and economic leadership.  Brakiri traditionally worship the Great Maker and also follow the economic philosophy of Brakir.  Other major worlds of the Syndicracy include Comac, Ekalta, and Lorka.  The most dominant corporations are Pri-Wakat, Im-Relsha, and Ly-Nakir.  The Merchant League guilds, especially Charioteers, but also Scravers, Muster, and Reeves; like to do business with the profit-minded Brakiri.  Human nobles who especially get along well with them are the Decados and al-Malik.  Universal Church missionaries, however, are disappointed to find few converts among the Brikari.
CASCOR COMMONWEALTH:  this is a race of slightly raccoon-like aliens who have a racial curiosity and love of adventure from the planet Cascan, who also have a colony world named Zachai.  The Cascor have a special fondness for fighter ships.  They are governed by a democracy, and the Cascor are fairly receptive to overtures from humanity, including Merchant League traders, Royal House diplomats, and Universal Church missionaries.
DRAZI FREEHOLD:  this is a reptilian race that often thrives on fighting each other or alien races.  Native to the dry planet of Zhabar.  Often, there is a cultural celebration caused by two groups of Drazi, Purples and Greens, who fight each other.  There are also unarmed brawling to help determine seats in the ruling body of the Freehold.  Sometimes, the Drazi will fight short, undeclared wars with humanity, the Narn Regime, the Centauri Republic, and other alien factions simply for the sake of fighting.  The Drazi's religion is polytheistic, even going as far as to worship Narn prophets, the Minbari's Valen, Centauri gods, the Great Maker, and the Pancreator alonside their native deities.  Other Drazi worlds include Drathun, Fendamir, Latig, Mofaka, Shambah, and Zagros VII.
GAIM INTELLIGENCE:  this is a race of intelligent insects native to the planet N'chak'fah, which has a methane-nitrogen atmosphere poisonous to other races.  The Gaim are divded into castes:  queens, workers, soldiers, drones, thinkers, and ambassadors.  On rare occasions, Gaim will go outside their solar system to engage in trade.  Aliens are almost never alllowed down on the surface of the homeworld, but do conduct business in space stations in N'chak'fah orbit.  The queens control the other Gaim by telepathy.  Human guildmembers will trade with the insectoid race, but Universal church missionaries have given up trying to convert the Gaim.
CH'LON:  this is an insect-resembling race from the planet of the same name who have fought both each other and alien races including humans.  In recent centuries, the rule of the old Ch'lon Supreme Order was overthrown, and several new political factions replaced the rule of the Ch'lon race.  A number of factions at least nominally converted to the Universal Church of the Celestial Sun, including three Ch'lon factions supported by Houses Hawkwood, Decados, and al-Malik.  The other two factions are allied with the Narn and Centauri and retain their older pagan religion.  the five Ch'lon factions fight each other both on their homeworld and in spacecraft in their home system.  Muster mercenaries and Brother Battle warrior monks often fight alongside the Ch'lon affiliated with the Hawkwoods, Decados, and al-Malik.
CORILLIANS:  this deeply religious race lives on the planet of the same name and on Orillan.  They have centuries ago been ruled by both Centauri and the Narn but today are independent.  The Corillians are monotheistic worshippers of the god Great Corillian, but increasingly they are turning to the Universal Church and Pancreator worship, which has fueled sectarian strife and even violence at times.  The ruling Hierarchs include both worshippers of Great Corillian and human-influenced Pancreator worshippers, so religious freedom is still nominally official policy.
GROME AUTOCRACY:  This is a race of humanoids with thick scales on their shoulders and backs.  They have always been governed by their ruler, the Margus, on their honeworld of Gromakh.  They are reluctant to have contact or trade with aliens, including humans.
HURR:  this is a race native to Androma.  The old Hurr Republic fell apart in the 30th Century, and the planet was divided between dozens of city-states.  This allowed the drazi to conquer parts of Androma by 3150, but most of the Hurr's native world remained in the hands of independent city-states.  Humans, especially Universal Church missionaries and Muster mercenaries, have found fertile ground among some Hurr to do their usual business.
HYACH:  this race, native to the planet Shri-shraba, has in recent centuries started to die out due to killing a sub-species of their race, the Hyach-doh, who were essential in order to keep the Hyach birthrates from declining.  the Hyach used to have colonies on Shra-bal and Yonog, but the Hyach populations on these worlds have almost died out.  The oligarchy of elders known as the Hyach Gerontocracy was overthrown in 2980 A.D., and Shri-shraba fragmented into separate factions, which remain to this day.  A growing number of Hyach have converted to the Universal Church due to the work of human missionaries, and the three main Hyach factions are affiliated with a human Royal House (Hawkwoods, Decados, al-Malik).
DESCARANS:  This is a race of humanoids with sharp fangs and claws and hunched bodues native to the lush, green, plant-filled world of Bestine.  They resemble Holy terran apes to a certain degree.  They also populate the planet T'lad'tha.  They are still fairly xenophobic toward aliens, and humans from the Merchant League and Universal Church have difficulty promoting free trade or religious conversion with the Descarans.
IPSHA BARONIES:  the starfish-like Ipsha are native to the planet of the same name, and they also populate the worlds of Eklor and Elitra.  The ipsha have a feudal system like that of human Royal Houses, and are still divided into five political factions.  The Ipsha have developed a faith in the Pancreator due to human missionary influence but have not officially jined the Universal Church of the Celestial Sun.  house decados tries to play the Baronies off against each other.
KOR-LYAN:  this is a joined, dual species of ape-like Kor and parsitic Lyan worms native to the world of Kor-Lya and also inhabiting the worlds of Lotna and Oleng.  The Kor-Lyans used to be divided into hundreds of separate kingdoms, but in recent centuries they united under a single monarchy.  They are active in interstellar affairs as traders and mercenaries.  The Universal Church has made few inroads here, though House Hawkwood has allied itself with the Kor-Lyan monarchy.
KOULANI:  this is a race of egg-laying reptiles native to the planet Koulan.  Their society is dominated by profit-oriented corporations, and they have many business transactions with humans of the Merchant League and Houses Hawkwood, decados, and al-Malik.  The Universal Church has made few converts among this race.
LLORT:  this is a race of armadillo-like beings who have the ability to burrow underground, and have a traditional underground culture on their native Vartas II.  They are well-known for the concept of the Exchange, where they believe if something appears to be left alone, they can just take it to use, and they leave it to be taken by someone else when finished with it.  The Llort has little concept of private ownership.  Sometimes, they have engaged in piracy or theft against alien species.  This is slowling changing as the Universal Church is having some success in converting Llort to the Pancreator.
LUMATI DOMINION:  this is a race native to the planet Lumat, with the upper classes considered to be superior to lower classes, and Lumati superior to non-Lumati.  There is limited trade with the humans of the Merchant League, and the few Lumati who have converted to the Universal Church are from the lower classes.
MARKAB WORLDS:  the Markab became extinct in the 23rd Century A.D. due to the drafa plague, but humans who make up two independent nations, the neo-Viking, Norse pagan god-worshipping Vuldrok Star Nation and the Islamic Kurgan Caliphate have cities and bases on Markab, Tiree, and Troth.  The Kurgans and Vuldrok occasionally raid each other but more often join forces to raid neighboring Hawkwood- and Decados-controlled space and even the Holy Terran system itself.  Since both cultures have usually resisted missionaries by the Universal Church, they often find themselves battling Brother Battle warrior monks.
MORADI:  this is a race of humanoids with sensitive openings on the sides of their heads and necks.  For centuries, their homeworld of Morad was under the totalitarian control of the Moradi Purity, but early in the current (34th) century, the Purity was overthrown, and the humans of the Merchant League and their guilds helped to rebuild their society.  The Universal Church's Eskatonic and Mahayana sects have rapidly made inroads among the Moradi, and the nobles of Houses Hawkwood, Decados, and al-Malik vie for influence among the Moradi political leadership.
PAK'MA'RA:  this is a race of carrion-eating, infra-red-seeing humanoids native to the planet Melat.  On their native world, they rely on the slaughtering of native animals for food, and outside their native solar system they usually feed on the remains of dead alien animals or even the corpses pf dead sentients, giving them a negative reputation.  They maintain a fleet of armed spacecraft to protect Melat.  they also have a space station, the Abattoir, for trading with non-Pak'ma'ra, including guildmembers of the Merchant League.  Interrestingly, though Pak'ma'ra have resisting converting to the Universal Church wholesale, they have combined many of it's teachings with their belief that eating the dead is their divine right and that it releases divine essence back into the universe.
TAL-KONA'SHA VIRTUALITY:  this race is entirely linked together in a virtual-reality universe known as the Linkage, which was caused by radical environmental changes to the planet Tal'kona'sha 50,000 years ago.  A backup Linkage and cloning system is on the neighboring planet of Ohran'khi.  Both solar systems are well-protected by Linkage-controlled warships that are partially organic in their technology.  The Tal'kona'sha are extremely intolerant of outsiders.
