The steady rise of hemlines drew attention to the legs and feet making shoes more important. The low chunky heel and chisel shaped toe was seen on everything from strappy sandals to go-go boots. Interesting detail was added with buckled tabs, chains and snaffle trims, lacing, stitching and narrow straps. Patent leather shoes in dark glowing colours like blue, green, brown, black and burgundy red were popular. Suedes were in, with colours such as beiges, camels, browns and with textured leather. Plenty of sparkle was added to evening wear shoes with diamante trimmings on gold and silver kid and shining satin.

Boots looked good with the new, clean lines of the early 60s. In 1963 Felicity Green in The Daily Mirror proclaimed "Boots with everything!" They ranged from sophisticated shaped styles with lacings reminiscent of the Edwardian era, to short elasticised chukka boots in the Beatle-style, to wear with trousers. Winkle-picker shoes were popular with the Teddy boy generation and were also made in female versions.
