I researched the cargo of the "BEN MACHDUI" and found that it was carrying a GENERAL CARGO, this obviously interested us, so we decided to to go and have a look at it.
When we arrived at the site, it took me a couple of hours to find the wreck (we only used the old DECCA 12 in those days, plus a magnetometer)We dropped a weight and buoy on the wreck site once we found it, and Jeb and Roy went down to have a look to see what they could find. After about 30 minutes Jeb came up and shouted that it was like a gold field down there, he said it was littered with WHITE METAL INGOTS (95% TIN)BRASS BARS, COPPER WIRE,SOLDER BARS, AND LOADS OF OTHER GOODIES. I got myself kitted up and went down to have a look, it was littered with what Jeb had said, plus MINES, TORPEDOES,SHELLS, etc, etc
Look at the following pictures.
The FAME WAS USED FIRST THEN WE USED THE "MV ASHBY"

"BENMACDHUI" 6869 tons Ben Line steamer, sunk by mine 21st Dec 1941
10miles east-north east of Spun Point, en route for Hong Kong from Immingham.
434ft long by 54ft. The wreck is in two parts.
