2002

For the past years we have been traveling around the northeastern part of the US trying to find a good summer destination with a good lobster to go with.  We went to Acadia Park in Maine early summer of 2000 and then Newport Rhode Island in the summer 2001. We never realized that the eastern most tip of Long Island is one of the famous summer destination in the country.  This year, we went to see the place in time with the 4th of July celebration and it turned out to be a great place.  This years destination was Montauk Point also known as the South Fork of Long Island....the place to be!!!!!

Our first stop was at  the famous Montauk Point Lighthouse located at the eastern most tip of the island right inside Montauk State Park. This is the first lighthouse that we have visited and we expect to be seeing more as we found out lighthouses are quite fascinating.

The kids had a wonderful time, and of course mommy and daddy were having a hard time catching up with all the questions that they have in mind.

This lighthouse was build on top of a cliff with a great view of the Atlantic Ocean. The old lighthouse keeper's place was turned into a museum and the place is great.  Check out the pictures.

This is the entrance to the Lighthouse. We took several pictures in front of the building with the beach and the Atlantic Ocean in the background. We were also able to get a good picture of the bulb right on top. Check it out.

This is a surveillance radar in Camp Hero. The camp is closed but some say that there are secret experiments going on there. Check out this website if your curious Camp Hero

Lunch was great at Gosman's Restaurant which is by the harbor. You can see the boats coming out of the harbor and the food was really great. We have grilled lobsters and the kids had the chicken strips. Check out the pictures.

After lunch we explored Gosman's Dock. It's a nice place with a clam bars, ice cream bar, fish market and docks for whale watching, fishing or just plain cruising trips. We also took a dip on the beach.

Now, here's one thing that you can enjoy in Montauk Point.  The serenity of the sunset by the bay. We were actually waiting for the July 4th Fireworks on the beach and was captivated by this beautiful sight. Here are some of the not so great pictures of the fireworks that we were able to capture.
