New Mobile Report Gundam X: Memories

Chapter 4: Shagia's Story

Crash Tricre did not even dare to look back at Freeden IV. It sat behind him, as silent and grave as its occupants. Hot tears welled up in his eyes, and he struggled to blink them away. Failing that, Crash wiped his eyes with his sleeves and collapsed onto the dashboard. The reason was not only because he had lost this fight and failed to protect the two brothers. It was the sudden realisation of one fact. That Crash Tricre was an ultimate failure. He was unable to protect anything in his entire life: his past, his family, his town. He had utterly failed and betrayed everything ever entrusted to him.

Head hung low and fearing the reaction from the Freeden crew, Crash was faced with a painful dilemna. He had stole and practically destroyed the prized Gundam X. He had indirectly caused the Frost brothers' death. What more harm must Crash do before he is satisfied!?

Crash Tricre finally decided, and fired up the thrusters.

Garrod watched the wrecked Gundam X take off in a cloud of smoke in disbelief, "What the- He's leaving!" Where the hell is that kid trying to take that damaged gundam to? The enemy pilot was very good, he could tell, from observation and a first person encounter. Crash needn't feel bad about himself. In fact, he's done excellent, actually managing to do such a deep slash to the chest of the Airmaster. The enemy retreated because he had no choice, the cut was deep enough to affect its reactor.

"Let him go," Jamil's voice spoke softly at the back," You were like him once, remember?"

But at least I've got Tiffa, Garrod thought, watching the gundam disappear over the horizon, he's got nobody left.

The main screen suddenly fickered in and Witz Sou's distorted face cut in, "Uh, guys! I can't move here, the leg's gone and the thrusters aren't working. Think I can get a lift?"

"Well, where were you while the other Airmaster was attacking Crash?" one of the crew members, who had dark tanned skin and platinum-gold hair retorted.

"Jeez, Toniya," Witz whined, visibly upset at her statement," You really hurt my feelings. Look what I've got!"

The image of Witz's Airmaster Burst enlarged to show that it was lying on side, with its hands clasped in front of it. It was holding something.

"You've failed! Yet again."

"Right, right, right. So I did," Seanelius Winner laid back on his seat. The gnawling feeling in his stomach was threatening to engulf him. It was the feeling of losing. He had always hated that. But even he had thought that Shagia and Olba were killed, then. "And stop calling Artesia to spy on me."

He was about to shut the connection when something struck him. "Again?"

His supervisor's face was emotionless," Yes. Again. Didn't the late Cartens Vorzmov tell you what you were supposed to be doing at that town?"

Seanelius's bewildered and clueless face told all. Wasn't he just there to provide reinforcement? "It is something to do with the Freeden IV being nearby?" he made an educated guess.

"Right off the mark. Your mission was to assasinate Crash Tricre."

The white coats trailed the men as they made for the emergency room in record speed, dragging the stretcher behind them. Lots of past experience probably helped, too.

Jamil Neate stopped the head doctor, Techcs Farzenbarg, and asked hurriedly," Situation?"

"Witz got them out from the car before it was blown up, so they did not suffer any burns or serious injuries. However, the flip from the car earlier shattered a few of his ribs and he suffered minor concussion. But I'm not worried about that."

"Then what?"

"Shagia appears to be in a very weak state. We can only guess that he is extremely sick. That would complicate matters. Frankly speaking, I think Shagia's going to die, even without the injuries. If only Olba," the eyes drifted towards another stretcher approaching slowly from the corridor," can tell us more. But he is also suffering from mild concussion, and will be unconsious for some time." A shout from one of the medics inside the operation room prevented Techcs from saying more, as he quickly broke from the conversation and dashed into the room.

The next hour stretched for an eternity, as Jamil and Garrod paced around impatiently outside the ER. Fifteen years ago, these two men were the very worst enemies of the Frost brothers, next to Newtypes.

Just as the red lights dimmed and a tired and haggard Techcs stepped out, someone else staggered into the corridor from the ward. It was Olba Frost, his head wrapped in a tight bandage. He leaned against the wall for a while to regain balance, as he was still dizzy from the knockout.

"Where's my brother? Is he okay?"

Techcs took off his glasses and wiped them with his white coat," Shagia's alright for now."

The loudest sounds of relief were from Jamil and Garrod, while Olba stared at them.

"But, he is still very weak. I would really appreciate it if you tell me what happened to him."

After the incident in space five years ago, Shagia lost the use of both legs, permanently condemned to spend the rest of his life on a wheelchair. The Frost brother laid low for the time, trying to draw as little attention to themselves from their employers and pursuers as possible. It was only when Shagia got struck down by a serious and conventionally uncurable disease that they tried to establish contact with their employers, W.O.R.L.D., but was betrayed and hunted by them instead.

Olba struck the metal wall violently, obviously angered and bewildered at the fact that, despite all they had tried to do for W.O.R.L.D., and sometimes even risking their lives and throwing everything they had into the goal, the organisation could still turn around and backstab them. Suddenly, he raised his head and cocked his ears, as though listening to something, then ran into the operating room.

Shagia Frost laid on the bed, dressed in the white drabs of a patient. He was thin now, compared to the fit body he had previously, and was obviously very frail. "Olba," he muttered, as his younger brother crouched beside him. Then, he noticed the others and greeted them," Thank you for saving us, Garrod." He had also lost his past arrogance.

"Shagia, just like you said, W.O.R.L.D. betrayed us." Olba said solemnly," But I had to try something."

"What is this W.O.R.L.D., Shagia?" Jamil stepped forward," Please tell us of it."

Olba looked his brother, and Shagia nodded softly. While Olba helped him sit on the bed, Shagia began," W.O.R.L.D.... We used to live and die for it, throwing our lives in to serve its ends."

W.O.R.L.D./Old Federation links
W.O.R.L.D.'s top minds are made up of the scientific minds of the old federation, and headed by a few of the more powerful past old federation Intelligence officials who had access to a lot of resources. It was established four years after the Seventh Space War.

W.O.R.L.D./New Federation alliance
W.O.R.L.D. maintains very small subtle relationships with the New federation Intelligence, supplying them with blueprints for their new mobile suits and gundams. The blueprints for Gundams Virsago and Ashatron and even Double X were provided by them. Most of the Old federation's engineers reallocated to W.O.R.L.D.. And the New federation lacked the talents to catch up with mobile suit developments of the Space Revolutionary Army.

It is a plot to draw the New federation into possessing the firepower and confidence to match that of the more resourceful Space colonies, so that there will be an eighth conflict.

W.O.R.L.D.'s other organisations
The A.N. organisation which did research on Tiffa and the Newtype Labs. The MA-06 Grandine used by the A.N. organisation was a reinforcement supply from W.O.R.L.D.. These organisations help W.O.R.L.D. in the Newtype research it is conducting.

"Wait a sec," Garrod interrupted Shagia," I thought you hate Newtypes. What are you doing working with W.O.R.L.D., then?"

Withholding the urge to sigh, Shagia instead gave an irritated look, scolding him," I am getting there."

W.O.R.L.D./Brothers alliance
Considering the fact that the two brothers were rejects from the Newtype labs, how is it that they managed to obtain two gundams that require a Newtype to activate the satellite cannon?

Actually, it is because of their relationship with the Newtype labs, the brothers were noticed by W.O.R.L.D., which saw them as a chance to do their outside work. WORLD gave them two gundams (delivered through the New federation Intelligence) and convinced them about the conspiracy to draw the two sides (New feds and SRA) into war, but never actually telling them about what will happen after the war other than the lie that Newtypes will cease to exist. Considering their hatred of Newtypes, the two brothers decided to join W.O.R.L.D..

Their involvement with the A.N. organisation is because W.O.R.L.D. wants the Tiffa research to continue (and the brothers agreed because they liked seeing the Newtypes tortured, but Shagia did not mention this) but the A.N. misintepreted their intentions because the brothers did not/cannot reveal that they are from W.O.R.L.D. and that led to it trying to destroy them.

The brothers also gladly destroyed the Newtype labs under the command of W.O.R.L.D. because W.O.R.L.D. had no further need of it and they have a personal grievance against the Newtypes labs.

AW 0015 Colony/Earth conflict conspiracy
The plot started by the brothers to eliminate the New Federation and Space Colony armies seemed sketchy at best. There was never a solid clue as to what the brother are able to do after the conflict, other than establishing a 'New world order' in their images. Actually, the whole picture is that both the New federation and space colony armies will annihilate each other, with no victory by any one side. (Which explains why W.O.R.L.D. supplies the New federation with new mobile suit designs and resources.) However, W.O.R.L.D. was taking no chances and gave the brothers a satellite cannon to take out the entire battlefield while the armies were fighting. The plan is that after the war, when both sides are defenseless, W.O.R.L.D. will take them over with its own army. However, the brothers have failed and W.O.R.L.D. sank into low profile for the past five years.

"So, um, what is the New World Order?" Garrod asked. This was all making a weird kind of sense, but one that did not seem to make sense, too.

"Our image," Olba said.

"A world where there will be people created in our image," Shagia said.

Jamil scratched his head.

"Okay," Shagia finally sighed, "Imagine this: a world where people communicate telepathically with each other, like we do. A world where no secrets will be kept from anyone and everyone. Everybody knows what the other is thinking. There will be no lies, no compromises, only truth."

Oh my God, Jamil exclaimed in his head, they actually wanted to be the future.

Garrod, muddle-headed as always, looked at Tiffa, who was observing things quietly from a corner, and turned back to Shagia," But isn't that what the Newtypes like Tiffa are already capable of?"

"It's not the same!" Shagia blurted out with such force that Garrod was taken aback. Rechecking himself, Shagia continued," Newtypes can shut themselves out from other Newtypes, and most of their abilities are warlike. They will not create the perfect future!"

"Nobody will create the perfect future," a tiny voice from the back of the room replied. Everybody turned to face Tiffa, who was looking straight at Shagia. "Nobody can create the perfect future themselves," she repeated," because there are no Newtypes."

"That is true," Jamil Neate affirmed, taking off his sunglasses," DOME said that."

"But DOME was a Newtype too," Olba argued. It was absurb. After all the hype and wars, and suddenly the most sought-after and powerful Newtype said there were none?

"Newtype is just a word. The person who is called one is still a human. DOME explained to us that these Newtypes will not create nor dominate the future, and left us to propagate its speech to the world. Their abilites are no more than yours, Shagia Frost, simply a group of people with pseudo-psychic powers."

"Well, that's too late now," Shagia relaxed, leaning back onto the bed and taking a deep breath. It was like a stone had been lifted off his chest. The Newtypes arguments had ended and it was a relief to know that no one person had any power in shaping the future. That no one person was more superior to the other. "I'll you one thing. The Newtype episode may be finished my book, but not in W.O.R.L.D.'s"

Picking that up quickly, Jamil queried," Does that mean they've got Newtypes?"

"Oh, much worse than that." Shagia winked his brother.

They've got us, and you, Jamil.
