I discovered your site by "accident" thru Alta Vista search on depression. Praise the Lord for it! Finally - someone says it's ok to have depression and I'm still a Christian! Nobody, including my pastor, understands depression at our church. He thinks it s something you just snap out of and get back to the Lord. Please pray for us. I've fought major depression for yrs., my daughter for 3 yrs (she cuts herself also), she won't take medication or go to therapy, she's leaving for a Christian college in 3 mon hs & I'm VERY scared for her.

Interesting to find this site my first time into cyber world and upon reading many of the comments thought I might recommend some helpful reading material in this area for Christians...Ed Bulkly's Only God Can Heal a Wounded Heart; Psychiatrist Gary Almy's ADDICTED TO RECOVERY. God did create us & He created our emotions as well ... for our good, not to harm us. He first mentions several, including depression in the first book of the Bible in Genesis ... true, He never gives us more than He knows we can handle & never tells us e will take us OUT of a situation, though He does say He will refine US IN THE SITUATION. He loved us so much & created us to have relationship with Him & waits with arms wide open as He says"come unto me all ye that are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." And, though man's ways change from moment to moment, He (and His Word) is "the same yesterday, today and forever." He tells us He gives us EVERYTHING for life and godliness in II Peter 1:3, and since we know He never lies, nor makes promi es He does not keep, we can count on Him to see us through as we are obedient to Him & His Word. He always goes after the one lost sheep, He loves us so much! In the dark times, it may help to think on Philippians 4:4-13, esp. vs 8 & may His peace that pa ses ALL our understanding be with each of you, for He know your need and knows who you are individually. My prayer is for contentment and rest for each of you, as our Lord Jesus Christ ministers to you!

I just want to tell you that GOD DOES MIRACULOUS- LY C-U-R-E DEPRESSION! I suffered from it until 1 month prior to my 39th B'Day, culminating in a suicide via massive drug O.D.alone in a Tijuana hotel room. My Testimony would take too long to document here but I WAS successful, there were witnesses to that fact, & our LORD Lovingly Re- versed what should've been the irreversible. If you have FAITH enough in HIM to be open to the idea that every thought or belief you've ever had (good or bad) is in error -- and you're amenable to HIS Teaching you all over again -- you're going to be in for AMAZING RESULTS that all the psychotropic drugs and psy- chotherapy in a lifetime can't even come close to giving you! Today, I am free of depression and have been off all antidepressants for well over 1 year -- additionally, HE has Led me to nearly 40 people in these past 18 months, Prophesied thru me to them. & Blessed me with the Joyous Privilege of seeing many "seemingly impossible" Prophecies come to pass as full Reality, leading Their reci- pients to New Lives in HIM. This site came at the right time for me. I have a lump on my thyroid and I have lost 30 lbs, don't feel well, and my sed rate is high. I am trying to work, but need to take some time off for my health sake, and my boyfriend is very supportive, but I sti l feel guilt for not being able to work. So I am starting to feel depressed, especially since my job is a caregiver to others, the developmentally disabled, the demented, and the elderly, and then when it comes to taking care of myself, I feel so guilty nd ashamed. I also have had to come to terms with my illness - and realize that part of God's plan for my life is in making myself vulnerable so that others will find encouragement to reach out for help with their own mental illnesses, in spite of the stigma and harsh judgements of other Christians.
