At the reception Elise was talking to Jen. "So Jen how long have you been with Howie again?"
"Um, about nine months he’s such a sweetheart. We met at a club,” she answered. Elise looked at the girl in front of her she had expected her to ask how she and A.J. had met. Elise was relived when she hadn’t been asked. " Well, I think D. wants you back now." Elise said winking at the girl, and pointing at Howie who was staring at her.
A.J. walked over to his wife and smiled as he set his hand on her belly. " Hi baby… Mrs. McLean." He said then rubbing the back of his hand down her cheek and kissing her.
"Baby, I can’t believe that we’re married. I mean you only asked me two days ago." she smiled as he sat down on the chair in front of her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"Hi there, your mommy can’t believe that her and your daddy are married… well I’ll show her tonight how true it is." He then kissed her belly and winked at her. She gave him a look, put her hands on his head and rubbed her fingers through his hair.
Then Aaron came running over, "Elise, A.J., I think it’s time for toasts. Are you guys ok?" he looked at the couple confused about why A.J. kissed her belly. They hadn’t told anyone other than Kevin and Kristin about Elise being pregnant.
"Oh thank you Aaron, yeah we’re fine tell them we’ll be right over." A.J. said and smiled at the boy.
He stood up and took Elise’s hand. As they walked up to the table at the other end of the room Elise rested her head on his shoulder. "I love you." They whispered in unison as they sat down. As each of the guys said their toasts A.J. held his hand on her belly under the table.
When the toasts finished they both stood up and hugged their friends. When it was time for everyone to leave A.J. stood up and asked everyone to stay to hear what he had to say. "Um, I have an announcement. We’re pre… no wait Elise is pregnant."
The couple watched the mixed reactions on people’s faces. Mostly older people looked a little upset. Most were very happy for them though. Aaron walked up to them as he was leaving and said, "Congratulations, maybe you aren’t quite so weird." He winked at them and followed his parents out the door.
After everyone left A.J. picked Elise up and carried her up the stairs.
