Chapter Thirty-nine

When they all got back to Florida Aaron moved back in with Nick for Christmas break. Aaron and Jess tried not to mention Jason when they were together just to they wouldn’t fight and when it came time to go back to school Aaron was dreading it.

He tried his best to ignore Jess holding Jason’s hand and kissing him in the hallway. As the play approached rapidly Aaron could only hope they started dress rehearsals soon.

Almost everyday they had a heated discussion about Jason. But they couldn’t stay mad. One of them would always make it right again. Elise knew though, that it wouldn’t stay that way. Aaron tried dating mostly to try and prove he could get one. Once they even tried to double date but it didn’t last long. (When Jess and Aaron’s date went to the bathroom Aaron ended up punching Jason.)

Aaron couldn’t tell Jess why. She would just think it was another scheme to break her and Jason up. Plus telling your best friend her boyfriend had a running bet on whether or not he could get in her pants was not a way to get on her good side.

All Aaron wanted was to have everything back to how it used to be; even if they weren’t together. He just wanted to be best friends again. “I’ve ruined my life,” he cried to Nick on the phone one night. “How could I have been so stupid bro? She’s so perfect… and I’ve lost her for good.”

“No you haven’t lost her Aaron. Don’t give up.”

“Nick, I PUNCHED her boyfriend!”

“You obviously had a good reason for it.”

“Yeah…” Aaron couldn’t tell anyone what Jason had said. No one would have believed it. They all knew he didn’t like Jason and with Aaron’s imagination something crazy like that was almost expected.

“Aaron, you did have a good reason for it didn’t you bro?”

“Yeah Nick. I had a good reason for it. The bastard deserved it.”
