Chapter Forty-six

When Aaron opened his eyes a strange feeling came over him and his heart began to race. His head was throbbing and someone kept saying his name over and over again. “What is that?”

As he looked to the bed Jess was gone. “Jess!” He jumped up and began to run towards the voice calling to him.

“Aaron! Aaron!” as he ran the voice grew louder and louder.

“Jess where are you?” Aaron screamed running through the eerily silent hospital, his footsteps echoing down the corridor.

After what seemed forever he reached the end of the hall, and a door. The voice was louder now and coming from the other side of the door. Aaron slowly opened the heavy gray door and found himself in the hospital’s morgue. “OH MY GOD!” He began to frantically pull open all the drawers. “Jess! You can’t die! NO!” He had gotten every drawer open but the one and it wouldn’t budge.

Aaron fell to the ground screaming and crying until a nurse frantically shook him awake. “Mr. Carter, wake up!”

“What? Where am I? Where’s Jess?”

“She’s right here Mr. Carter, please... you need to calm down. It was only a dream. Do you need some water or something?”

“No not right now. I’m sorry to have scared you.”

“It’s okay. If you need anything just call.”

“I will,” Aaron turned to Jess as the nurse left the room. “I Wish you were awake. I miss you Jessie.” He gently kissed her forehead.

After a few minutes he stood up, “I’m going to go get a glass of water. I’ll be right back.” As he walked along the edge of the bed he let his hand linger on her arm. Just before he could walk away he felt something grab his hand.

“Aaron, don’t leave.”
