Chapter Fifty-six

"Hi, this is Jess. I'm not home right now so leave a message… Aaron."

"Hey. It's me. Meet me at the airport at six tomorrow morning."

Aaron hung up the phone and picked up his bags. "I'm ready," he said to his security guards waiting at the door.

"There's a crowd downstairs," the one handed Aaron a pen and a few pre-signed pictures.

"Thanks," Aaron looked around quickly, "we need to stop and pick something up before we leave."

"Okay."

As they stepped out of the elevator downstairs girls were screaming at the tops of their lungs and taking tons of pictures. "Aaron! Aaron!"

"Hi, what's your name?"

"Um… most people call me Pinky."

Aaron gently hugged the girl and handed her a picture. "Here you go Pinky."

Aaron signed shirts, pants, books, and hats and gave out pictures just to make his way through the crowd. After almost a half an hour he made it to the door. "Thank god we plan for that type of thing," Aaron rushed into his car and they headed to pick up what he needed.

Despite how tired he was Aaron couldn't seem to fall asleep on the plane. He kept checking his pocket for the box concealed inside. As they were landing Aaron could feel the sweat rolling down his face. "Do you need anything Sir?"

"No, I'll be okay."

Aaron knew where Jess would be waiting for him so he got his bags ad went to the bathroom to calm down. "Who's the fox looking our direction?" his security guard taunted Aaron.

"That fox is my best friend."

"Aaron!" Jess started running towards him.

"Jessie!" Aaron wrapped his arms around her and swung her in a circle.

"I missed you," they said in unison.

"Did you tell anyone you were coming?"

"No, I wanted to see you first. You look amazing Jess."

"Yeah, I guess, considering how early I had to wake up cause some weirdo made me run to the airport."

"No I'm serious. You are a sight for sore eyes." Aaron hugged her again and went to look in her eyes but stopped himself and looked away, shoving his hand in his pocket. When he had seen her, his heart had stopped, and now it was racing at a mile a minute.

"Hey, once we get to the car you're off-duty okay?" Aaron smiled at his security guard and draped his arm over Jess's shoulder.

When they reached the car his guard tuned around and walked to his car. "Mom and Dad are still asleep and I didn't tell them anything."

"Got it." Aaron opened the door for her and went around to the other side. "I'm driving."

"Like I hadn't noticed Captain Obvious." Jess slipped her hand in his free one once he had started the car.

"I'm sorry I was gone so long."

"It's okay, just as long as you promise to stick around."

When they got home they quietly went to Jess's room and sat down on the bed. "Look what I found going through my stuff last night." Jess pulled out a photo album and yearbook from under her bed. "I still think it's funny that we won best couple when we weren't even together."

"I guess we were meant to be." Aaron whispered as Jess rested her head on his shoulder and silently flipped through the pages.
