Chapter Fifty-nine

"Hey Jessie, you asleep?" Aaron whispered into the darkness of her room.

"I'm thinking."

"Really?" Aaron slowly made his way to her bed and sat down next to her. "What about?"

"Oh, just about this really sweet and sexy guy who asked me to marry him. He was so cute." Jess put her head on the back of his head and ran her fingers through his hair.

"That's interesting because I was thinking about the most beautiful woman in the world agreeing to marry me." He softly kissed her head and was about to lean back but stopped himself.

"Lie back Aaron. It won't hurt anything. Besides nobody even knows yet. It'll just be like when I came and stayed with you at night."

"Except it's me in your room, in your bed." Aaron slowly slid into a comfortable position under the covers and Jess wrapped her arms around him and rested her head on his bare chest.

"I won't do anything bad if you won't."

Aaron wrapped his arms around her and she sighed softly. "I'd have to say this is the best place on earth."

"Where?"

"In your arms." Jess kissed his chin.

"What was the first thing that made you fall in love with me?"

"Maybe it was your abs," she laughed. "But, no, seriously it was your eyes. I could always tell how you were feeling… except there were some days when your eyes were just cloudy… like you didn't want me to know."

"Same here."

They stayed awake, talking for an hour or two and when Jess fell asleep Aaron stayed awake and just watched her breathe. She was so calm and relaxed. He could remember times when he could feel every muscle in her body shaking and her not even realizing it. Aaron settled down into the covers and gently moved her head onto his shoulder before falling asleep, for the first time in months… happy.

When he woke up Jess was still asleep but she had rolled over, her covers were hanging off of the bed and half her body was draped over his. He carefully pulled the blanket over her and kissed her forehead. "Morning," she mumbled and curled up next to him.

"Morning."

"Did you stay up all night just so you could wake me up?"

"No. I got a little sleep," Aaron gently kissed her lips, "You're just really beautiful when you sleep."

"You always think I'm beautiful… if I didn't know better I'd have to say you loved me."

"I do, and you are… even with bed head."

As Jess leaned up to kiss him her door swung open. "Jess have you seen… oh, I guess you have. Am I interrupting?" Mom stood in the doorway almost in shock.

"No, we were just getting up, right Jessie?"

"Right Aaron… to get breakfast… yeah breakfast."

Mom stared at them for a few minutes and finally spoke, "Does this mean what I think it does?"

"If it means this," Jess leaned back up and kissed Aaron, "then yes. Or, if it means this," she waved her ring towards her mother, "then yes to that too."
