Chapter Sixty-two

“Aaron will be here soon.” Jess hung up the phone; “He says he has a surprise for me.”

“This should be interesting.”

“Is Mac staying the night with Denise?”

“I think so. She said they would call if she wasn’t.”

“I bet she loves being a grandmother.”

“She adores it.” Elise looked around the kitchen and smiled, “Do you think we went too home style?”

“Nah, well... maybe a tad.” She smiled as she placed the fresh biscuits in a basket next to the homemade macaroni and cheese.

“Do you think we made enough?”

“Definitely. You’ll even have leftovers so you wont have to cook when A.J. gets home.”

“Yippie!”

“Hey! Anybody home?” a voice called from the front door.

“CADEN!” Jess almost dropped the ham she was pulling from the oven.

“Go ahead, I’ve got it.”

Jess ran out and threw her arms around Caden. “I didn’t tell him.” Aaron mouthed to her from behind Caden’s back.

“We’ve been looking for you.”

“I’m sorry sis.”

“We…” Jess smiled at Aaron who had walked up beside her, “we have news.” Caden’s mouth hung wide open when Jess waved the ring in front of him. “Well?”

He was silent, looking back and forth between Aaron and Jess who were beaming. “You finally did it. You finally did it.”

When Elise stepped in the room Caden was sitting down, but dazed. “Okay, your Mom fainted and your brother is in a daze… I don’t know Jess, but I’d have to say that your family is strange.”

“When?” Caden asked rather loudly scaring the rest of them.

“Saturday night,” Jess smiled.

“No wonder it took you this long to work up the nerve to come home. Dude, I thought you were just going to ask her out again.”

“Sorry man,” Aaron smiled.

“Was he a wreck?” Caden asked Jess with a smile.

“Definitely.”

“Oh so the only thing you wanted to know was how nervous I was?”

“Precisely… it show’s how much you love her.”

“He cried.” Jess whispered behind her hand but Aaron heard and began to tickle her. Aaron flipped Jess onto the couch and Caden stood up.

“This looks familiar…” he ran at Aaron.

“Jess move!” Elise pulled her out of the way as Caden landed on the couch.

Jess and Elise were laughing hysterically as the boys lunged at each other again. “Honey I’m… what the heck?!”
