GOD Does It

Years ago, this webpage author used to mindlessly utter (along with most everyone else) the Christmastime lyrics of Sammy Cahn: "Let it snow....let it snow.....let it snow.".

In later years, as I grew into more spiritual maturity, I reconsidered what I had been nonchelantly chanting throughout previous yuletimes, and began to seriously question the implications of the wording of that catchy tune.

"Let it snow?" What had I been saying? Had I (or anyone else who had mouthed those semantics) had the Divine power to "let" it snow? What could I or anyone else have done about it to cause it to snow, or not snow? I have heard of seeding clouds with silver iodide crystals, and the somewhat-secret H.A.R.P. weather-modification project of the government. But, come on now: WHAT can any human being do to cause it to snow, or not snow?

When we had been voicing those song lyrics, had we presumed (not assumed) that we ourselves were taking the place of Christ the Creator who shockingly stated?:

Mr 4:39 And he awoke and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

If so, why not continue to play God and claim power over more than snow?:

Ex 9:18 Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause very heavy hail to fall, such as never has been in Egypt from the day it was founded until now.

Ps 89:11 The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine; the world and all that is in it, thou hast founded them.

Pr 3:19 The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding he established the heavens

Isa 44:24 Thus says the LORD, your Redeemer, who formed you from the womb: "I am the LORD, who made all things, who stretched out the heavens alone, who spread out the earth--Who was with me?

Zec 12:1 An Oracle The word of the LORD concerning Israel: Thus says the LORD, who stretched out the heavens and founded the earth and formed the spirit of man within him:

Heb 1:10 And, "Thou, Lord (i.e. Son of God), didst found the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of thy hands;

Jas 5:17 Elijah was a man of like nature with ourselves and he prayed fervently that it might not rain, and for three years and six months it did not rain on the earth.

Job chapter 38 reminds us that God has and continues to do what no human has, does, nor can do (not merely in letting it snow or not snow):

4 "Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.
5 Who determined its measurements--surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?
6 On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone,
7 when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?
8 "Or who shut in the sea with doors, when it burst forth from the womb;
9 when I made clouds its garment, and thick darkness its swaddling band,
10 and prescribed bounds for it, and set bars and doors,
11 and said, 'Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed'?
12 "Have you commanded the morning since your days began, and caused the dawn to know its place,
13 that it might take hold of the skirts of the earth, and the wicked be shaken out of it?
14 It is changed like clay under the seal, and it is dyed like a garment.
15 From the wicked their light is withheld, and their uplifted arm is broken.
16 "Have you entered into the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep?
17 Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness?
18 Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this.
19 "Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and where is the place of darkness,
20 that you may take it to its territory and that you may discern the paths to its home?
21 You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!
22 "Have you entered the storehouses of the snow, or have you seen the storehouses of the hail,
23 which I have reserved for the time of trouble, for the day of battle and war?
24 What is the way to the place where the light is distributed, or where the east wind is scattered upon the earth?
25 "Who has cleft a channel for the torrents of rain, and a way for the thunderbolt,
26 to bring rain on a land where no man is, on the desert in which there is no man;
27 to satisfy the waste and desolate land, and to make the ground put forth grass?
28 "Has the rain a father, or who has begotten the drops of dew?
29 From whose womb did the ice come forth, and who has given birth to the hoarfrost of heaven?
30 The waters become hard like stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.
31 "Can you bind the chains of the Pleiades, or loose the cords of Orion?
32 Can you lead forth the Mazzaroth in their season, or can you guide the Bear with its children?
33 Do you know the ordinances of the heavens? Can you establish their rule on the earth?
34 "Can you lift up your voice to the clouds, that a flood of waters may cover you?
35 Can you send forth lightnings, that they may go and say to you, 'Here we are'?
36 Who has put wisdom in the clouds, or given understanding to the mists?

Perhaps, when it is sung, those who sing "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow" are begging God the Creator to let it snow. But ARE they actually praying to the Lord to let it snow?

There is another problem with the wording.

Use of the word let in "let it snow" implies that God the Creator is a subordinate manager of a Force Of Snowmaking Beyond Him Which Wants To Snow Of Its Own Accord, which He might or might not be able or willing to control. It is as if Snowing Itself is a Pre-Existing Power Of And From Itself which, perhaps, can be let loose or instead restrained.

In any case, the nonsensical "Let It Snow" words of Sammy Cahn SUCK.

It would be better to petition the Creator Christ: 'HAVE it snow, HAVE it snow, HAVE it snow'.

When we further contemplate what exactly is going on with God the Creator doing and able to do what we pathetically-infinitesmal human lifeforms obviously have not done, are not doing, and cannot do ourselves, we see further applications.

For example, when it comes to bodily healing, none of us - in reality and actuality - can "courageous win a battle" against cancer or any other disease. The Lord has built in a sort of resurrection power internally into all of us, and when we get sick, His healing goes into action whether we want it or not. We cannot alter its coming, its presence, its timing, its progress, its duration, its completion, nor its restorative effects. We cannot start it ourselves, nor end it ourselves. It does its own thing, when it wants to, how it wants to.....and God made it that way.

It appears that for every symptom that artificial medicines apparently cure or at least seemingly alleviate, after-effect side-effects are numerous and consequential. [Abusive] surgery leaves scars, causing more difficulties later on. Cold remedies (which wrongly are attributed for restoring health) simply mask symptoms and prolong recuperation. DNA genetic coding is subtly and overtly maligned by artificial chemical/medicinal "treatments," some of which are manifested in birth defects, miscarriage, plus pregnancy and birth-delivery complications. There is nothing like the body's own production of its own anti-bacterial and anti-viral combatants....which is something only The Divine Healer can take credit and be thanked for.

So why do people die from disease, foolish accidents, and old age? Is God to blame for infectious bacteria, viruses, genetic disorders and dysfunction, dying, and death? Can the Lord, the Healer, be faulted for such devastation and misery?

Do YOU ever abuse your body, in various ways? Does ANYONE ELSE ever abuse your body? Is my body ever abused, by myself or others? Do we always take good care of that temple of the Holy Spirit within us? Have we any addictive or immoral vices? Have we always gotten to bed on time....or instead deprived ourselves of needed rest and sleep - for whatever suspicious purpose? Have we always eaten clean and nutritious food and drunken clean and nutritious drink...or instead consumed pesticided, fattening, and diet-drink crap along with all sorts of carcenogenic additives? Have we always breathed in clean fresh air....or instead industrially and automotively-polluted gases laden with cancer-causing radioactive fallout finally setting to Earth years later after the atmospheric atomic-bomb testings of the last half of the 20th century?

Do we resist God's healing power? Impatiently or greedily go to work and spread around contagious germs when we should be sensitive to our bodily needs to quarantined rest and TV-postponing sleep? Did we submissively accept and accomodate to the signals our bodies are sending us? Do we patiently let the Lord's healing take effect and take its own course? Or instead ignore and override it by defiantly and belligerantly killing ourselves suicidally, whether promptly or gradually? Scripture references are enlightening:
