Occasionally, you might hear someone ask: "IF Christ could heal everyone simply by speaking them or touching them into restored health, why didn't He?"
Being the query is based on an "IF," the question is a loaded one, and casts doubt on Christ's ability to heal and not merely His willingness.....besides asking the additional question of "if-then-why" He did not heal everyone.
Because of the "IF" part of the question, it need not be responded to - or should be responded to sarcastically to in some way to understandably belittle the one who asked the ridiculously-loaded question.
However, if the question was asked: "SINCE Christ could heal everyone simply by speaking them or touching them into restored health, why didn't He?" a suitable response would be based upon whether the question-asker, upon hearing an answer, would disdain the Lord for not healing everyone randomly at large. If contempt was the motive, a proper answer to the question would be: "It is none of your business:"
Matthew 20:15 Am I not allowed to do what I choose with what belongs to me? Or do you begrudge my generosity?'
John 21:22 Jesus said to him, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you? Follow me!"
John 21:23 The saying spread abroad among the brethren that this disciple was not to die; yet Jesus did not say to him that he was not to die, but, "If it is my will that he remain until I come, what is that to you?"
Romans 9:16 So it depends not upon man's will or exertion, but upon God's mercy.
Romans 9:20 But who are you, a man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, "Why have you made me thus?"
Romans 14:4 Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Master is able to make him stand.
James 4:12 There is one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you that you judge your neighbor?
If the intention for asking the initial question is not contemptuous reviling, the question then remains to be answered: "SINCE" Christ could heal everyone simply by speaking them or touching them into restored health, why didn't He?"
As with all miracles recorded in Scripture, the prophet or the Lord who did those miracles did not capreciously choose to do what they did of their own will, but were called by the Father to heal only certain ones for whatever purpose(s).
Such purposes can sometimes only be guessed as to why only certain ones were selected for healing.
From a human point of view, let's ask ourselves some similar questions: "Why don't we choose every brand of whatever there is to buy in a grocery store, every garment available that fits us in a clothing store, every piece of furniture or hardware there is in a furniture or hardware store? If one presumes those questions are "stupid," then the question about Christ's selectivity is also "stupid!" Well, why don't we buy everything available?
We do not have enough money. We also do not have the need. Although Christ had the power to heal everyone, he was (during His earthly pilgrimage) human and so experienced some human limitations:
Mark 5:30 And Jesus, perceiving in himself that power had gone forth from him, immediately turned about in the crowd, and said, "Who touched my garments?"
John 4:6 Jacob's well was there, and so Jesus, wearied as he was with his journey, sat down beside the well. It was about the sixth hour.
Matthew 9:12 But when he heard it, he said, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick.
Mark 2:17 And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but sinners."
Luke 5:31 And Jesus answered them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick;
Not everyone is sick enough to require supernatural healing.
Regarding selectivity as to which sick got healed and which sick did not get healed according to Biblical New-Testament history, not everything has been told us for the sake of God's Bible-editing preferences:
John 21:25 But there are also many other things which Jesus did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written.
And although (according to Matthew 5:45) "God sends his rain on the just and on the injust, sometimes the Lord rightly and legitimately discriminates for saints and against sinners:
Malachi 3:18 Then once more you shall distinguish between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.
In response to why the Lord chose only certain men and not others nor everyone to be His select twelve apostles (especially and obviously not the rich young man who Jesus told to leave and sell all that he had and come follow Him but which rich young man sorrowfully declined), answer this question: "Why do women choose only ONE particular spouse?" to fulfil the KJV (not RSV nor NASV) rendition of First Timothy 5:14 in view of the KJV (not RSV nor NASV) translation of First Corinthians 7:1-2? So pertaining to Christ's healing selectivity:
Matthew 7:1 "Judge not, that you be not judged.
Luke 6:37 "Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;
Moreover:
Isaiah 10:22 For though your people Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. Destruction is decreed, overflowing with righteousness.
Matthew 22:14 For many are called, but few are chosen."
Romans 9:27 And Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: "Though the number of the sons of Israel be as the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will be saved....
When Jesus was on Earth with His destructible physical body, He was somewhat restricted:
Philippians 2:4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus,
6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied himself, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men.
8 And being found in human form he humbled himself and became obedient unto death, even death on a cross.
But now that He has been resurrected and has an indestructible body:
Hebrews 7:16 who has become a priest, not according to a legal requirement concerning bodily descent but by the power of an indestructible life.
and the Son of God (i.e. Jesus) has both ascended back to heaven and is omnipotent and omnipresent through the Holy Spirit, that Creator can respond positively to all petitions within Biblical parameters He has set and made known to us for anyone in the universe simultaneously.
God might be calling you to want, to ask for, and to expect your own healing or the healing of someone else.....
[Philippians 2:13 for God is at work in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.]
.....providing it is HIS will, in view of the fact that He might decide to temporarily allow sin of yourself or others to block improvement:
John 9:31 We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if any one is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him.
John 16:24 Hitherto you have asked nothing in my name; ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 7:19 (for the law made nothing perfect); on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to God.
Hebrews 7:25 Consequently he is able for all time to save those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
