Synopsis: Kent Marlowe has been sentenced to ten years in prison. As cellmates he has Butch and Morgan, two of the toughest inmates. Butch, a cold-blooded killer, and Morgan, a high-class thief are fiercely loyal to each other despite the fact that Morgan's ultimate goal is to play it straight. A terrified Kent turns stool pigeon to try and buy his way out of prison, but plans go wrong when a botched escape turns into a violent stand-off. Easily Montgomery's best early role. He gives a finely nuanced performance as the weak and frightened Kent. It's amazing that M-G-M didn't immediately cast him in more serious and worthwhile roles after this obvious display of dramatic ability. |
