Virtual Field Trip

This is a teacher lead activity, not an independent student activity.

Introduction:

It’s time for a field trip! This is a special field trip because we are going to look all around our community without ever leaving the classroom. Keep your eyes and ears open to see what is around us!

First stop:

Our first tour guide is historical figure, Benjamin Franklin. At this stop he tells us about the basic buildings in a neighborhood community and what the function of each building is.

Second stop:

Our second stop takes us to Oldham County’s web page. What do we know about Oldham County? We live in Oldham County and our neighborhood and groups are in Oldham County. It is important to know about where you live and what is going on around your home.

Third stop:

Next we arrive at the Oldham County Library’s website where we can take a look at some of the groups that are in Oldham County. Are you in any of these groups?

Fourth stop:

An important group of people to know is the Oldham County police officers. Let’s take a look at their website to see what kind of information they have for us. How do you recognize a police officer? What is the police officer’s job? What happens if we don’t have police officers?

Fifth stop:

After the police station we are going to stop at the fire station. What is a fireman’s job? How is a fireman’s job like a police officer’s job? How are they different? What can we learn from a fireman?

Time to go back to school!

Our field trip is over and you got to learn all about different parts of our community without ever leaving your seat! During the next couple of weeks we will learn more about the community that we live in!
