The Diffusion of the Elements

Yiannis Melanitis used the main structural characteristic of D624 as a conservatory and turn it into an open laboratory, where he performed an alchemistic act. This is the presentation of a work in progress, a methodology of a ritual. Three main elements - sulfur, salt and mercury representing respectively north, southwest and southeast - are mixed together under the action of the public, who triggers the mechanism, and through the intermediation of a woman. The female body functions as an interstage apparatus in the mixture of nature's elements. She is a conductor. The blown-glass extension that conducts the elements is merely an external visualisation of her internal organs (f allopian tubes, stomach). The entire ritual, lasting approximately 20 minutes, is part of a three sectioned work named ‘ The Garden' .

Southeast - mercury

A female performer appears to be slightly mutated. She lies on the sulphuric ground with glass sculptures on her body resembling internal organs . She spits saliva which moves to the central part of the glass sculpture to mix with mercury, driping on the sulphuric ground.

Oxen Of the Sun

Onward to the dead sea they tramp to drink, unslaked and with horrible gulpings, the salt somnolent inexhaustible flood. And the equine portent grows again, magnified in the deserted heavens, nay to heaven's own magnitude, till it looms, vast, over the house of Virgo. And, lo, wonder of metempsychosis, it is she, the everlasting bride, harbinger of the daystar, the bride, ever virgin. It is she, Martha, thou lost one, Millicent, the young, the dear, the radiant. How serene does she now arise, a queen among the Pleiades, in the penultimate antelucan hour, shod in sandals of bright gold, coifed with a veil of what do you call it gossamer! It floats, it flows about her starborn flesh and loose it streams emerald, sapphire, mauve and heliotrope, sustained on currents of cold interstellar wind, winding, coiling, simply swirling, writhing in the skies a mysterious writing till after a myriad metamorphoses of symbol, it blazes, Alpha, a ruby and
triangled sign upon the forehead of Taurus.

Περιγραφή:

Δύο γλυπτά από φυσητό γυαλί παρουσιάζονται στο έργο. Το πρώτο πού αντιστοιχεί στον οισοφάγο και το στομάχι, εκβάλλει στην εσοχή του δευτέρου το σάλιο (που αντιστοιχεί στην μήτρα τους ωοαγωγούς και τις ωοθήκες).

Η γυναίκα γεμίζει αργά με σάλιο το γυάλινο γλυπτό σχήματος στομάχου που συνδέει το στόμα της με ένα τριγωνικό, κεντρικό γλuπτό. Κάθε φορά που Το κοινό αγγίζει το τζάμι μπροστά της, έ νας κρυμμένος μηχανισμός απελευθερώνει υδράργυρο στο γυάλινο γλυπτό που βρίσκεται πάνω στο σώμα της. Το μίγμα πέφτει στο θειάφι που βρίσκεται στο έδαφος.

Η Διάχυση των Στοιχείων

Ο ΓΙάννης Μελανίτης χρησιμοποίησε το κύριο δομικό χαρακτηριστικό του D624 ως προθήκη, μετατρέποντας το χώρο σε ένα ανοιχτό εργαστήριο, όπου παρουσιάσε μια αλχημιστική δραστηριότητα. Αυτή είναι η παρουσίαση ενός έργου σε εξέλιξη, μιάς μεθοδολογίας της τελετουργίας. Τρία κύρια στοιχεία - θειάφι, αλάτι και υδράργυρος που έχουν προσανατολιστεί αντιστοίχως βόρεια, νοτιοδυτικά και νοτιοανατολικά - αναμειγνύονται πάνω στο σώμα μιας γυναίκας (Φρόσω Βουτσινά) με τη συμμετοχή του κοινού, το οποίο ενεργοποιεί έναν μηχανισμό με ηλεκτροβαλβίδες.Στην περίπτωση αυτή, το γυναικείο σώμα λειτουργεί ως μεσάζων στη ανάμειξη των στοιχείων της φύσης. Αποτελεί μιά μορφή αγώγιμου σώματος. Τα γυάλινα γλυπτά όπου τα στοιχεία αναμειγνύονται είναι μια εξωτερική αναπαράσταση των εσωτερικών της οργάνων (σάλπιγγες, στομάχι). Η όλη τελετουργία, με διάρκεια περίπου 20 λεπτά, αποτελεί μέρος ενός τρίπτυχου έργου που ονομάζεται «Ο Κήπος».
