About My Poetry:

Prior to 1995 I never had an interest in poetry nor did I figure I had a gift to write it. However, on January 15, 1995 I started my very first poem and that's when all my writings began. (A number of poems were copywrited a few years after the actual writings of them.)
I'm generally not the type that can just sit and write poetry just for something to do. It has to flow out from something inside of me and usually a lot those times have been when I was hurting. It's not that I couldn't write when things were going good, but I guess I just don't feel the need to express my feelings at those times as much...at least through poetry. (Although recently I've been inspired to write in other ways as well.) Poetry has been like an outlet for me to express how I feel when opening up isn't always easy at the moment.
I understand that a lot insecurities and fears we have stem from past memories that are triggered by, and projected on, our present circumstances. Although they are not
always a reality; they are still very real at the time. I hid my poems for many years for fear of being judged for having these kinds of feelings. Now I realize that I need to share my poems with others because I believe there are many people who struggle with opening up how they really feel. Knowing that someone else may understand or feel the same way can make a world of difference to someone. Although I believe that learning to share how we feel is very important, I also realize that if all we do is talk about our problems and say "we're just expressing how we feel," that that is also unhealthy...just like holding everything inside is unhealthy...and it can become a crutch that will hinder us from walking into any real freedom in Christ. So let's just say, "there's a balance."
