. chapter 1

Kyo read over the letter from his friend for the millionth time that afternoon, hoping it would give some insight into the cryptic message his friend had given him.

‘7:00, Vera Lynn. we need to talk.’

Kyo feared what his friend would tell him, remembering a recent, painful event between the two.

He knew they hadn’t been getting along these past few weeks, the arguments between the two had become more frequent. In fact, it seemed like that’s all they did now. But, somehow, Kyo had hoped they’d work it out, that love would see them through...

He sighed and tucked the note into his pocket before pushing open the door and entering the dim-lighted bar.

He looked around, at all the people seated at tables, talking in subdued tones, at the people huddled at the bar, some chatting with the bartender, some with friends (or the stranger sitting next to them), some not caring about anything but the drink in their hands.

Fear and nervousness made tight knots in his stomach. He felt sick, he squeezed his eyes shut. He hated bars. He hated drinking. He didn’t want to be here. Why couldn’t they have met-

"Kyo?"

A quiet voice behind him distracted him from his thoughts. He opened his eyes and turned to face the voice. It was Toshiya.

He tried to smile, but but his nervousness made it look pretty pathetic.

"Are you okay Kyo?" He was plainly worried.

Kyo nodded, "Yeah, Toshiya. I’m fine," his voice quivered, not at all convincing.

Toshiya stared at him a moment before pushing past him.
Kyo followed wordlessly.

They sat at a booth in the back corner of the room. Toshiya immediately ordered a drink from a passing waitress.

He looked at him apologetically, "Sorry Kyo, I know you don’t like alcohol. But..."

Kyo shook his head, starting to feel more relaxed, "No, it’s okay Totchi."

Toshiya stiffens slightly at the affectionate name and Kyo again begins to worry.

As the drinks came Kyo wetted his lips and ventured, "Toshiya? What was it you wanted to see me about?"

Toshiya takes a sip of his beer before setting it down, looking sad, but resolved.

"Kyo, we can’t see each other anymore," Kyo nearly drops his glass. He felt like his heart had just been ripped out. He stared at Toshiya, not wanting to believe what he heard. Hoping Toshiya was joking, that everything would be okay. But, Toshiya continued, "I use to believe that if we at least had love I would be able to deal with everything..."

He tries to speak, to say something to him, but the words catch in his throat.

"Kyo, its not the same as it was when we started out. Then, you were..." he shook his head, "You’ve changed, Kyo... I’ve changed... I don’t think..."

He finds his voice, "Toshiya, whatever it is, I can change it. We, we can work it out! Please, Toshiya, I love you, don’t leave me. I..."

Toshiya shook his head again, "I know you believe it will work, if we have... ...I use to think that too... but, all we do is fight lately... and, and its made me really think about how I feel about you..."

"Totchi-"

Toshiya stands, "...I ...I’m sorry Kyo. I don’t think I love you anymore..."

Kyo moves to stand, to grab his arm, "Totchi-"

He runs off before Kyo can say another word.

ak's comments: aa, I don't know, is the break up scene okay? I've never had to break up with someone, 'cause I've never had a boyfriend. ...the dialogue seems kinda fake to me.
anyway, I haven't really decided where they are (LA or Japan), so there I'm suck... plus... aa, nevermind.
'Vera Lynn' is my imaginary bar. 'cause I don't know the names of any bars in Japan or America...
I don't know whether I'll finish this story or not... but, I hate having things I've written wasting away on my computer...
Komento ha kudasai!
