Abraham Lincoln
Born on February 12, 1809, near Hodgenville, Kentucky,Died April 15, 1865, Washington, D.C. The sixteenth president of the United States and president during the Civil War (1861–1865). Abraham Lincoln was the son to Thomas and Nancy Lincoln, they lived in a log cabin on a farm in Hardin County, Kentucky. Two years later the family moved to a farm on Knob Creek. When Abraham was about seven years old, his father sold his lands and moved the family into the rugged wilderness of Indiana across the Ohio River. In the summer of 1818, a terrible disease known as milk sickness struck the region. This desease would take the life of his mother. The next winter Thomas Lincoln returned to Kentucky and brought back a second wife, Sarah Bush Johnson, a widow with three children. As time passed, the region where the Lincoln's lived became quite population. Lincoln's father would again moved his family to a new home in Illinois, where he built a cabin on the Sangamon River. Near the end of the their first summer in Illinois, disease swept through the region, forcing the Lincoln's to move once again. This time it was to Coles County. Abraham would not follow his family, but instead moved to New Salem, where he was placed in charge of a mill and store. This was a turning point in Abraham's life. When the Black Hawk War (1832) erupted between the United States and the Native Americans, the volunteers of the region elected him to be their captain. After the war he would seek to serve the people in the political arena. First in 1834, he was elected to the state legislature. Abraham served four straight terms in the legislature and soon emerged as a party leader.In September 1836 Lincoln began practicing law,then in 1846 Lincoln was elected to the U.S. Congress. He would marry Mary Todd on November 2, 1842. In 1860 the Republican National Convention met and chose Lincoln as their candidate for president of the United States. With country dividing, Lincoln would lead the Union through the bloodest war known in America, The Civil war. Five days after the Lee's Confederate army surrendered and the Civil War was ending. Confederate John Wilkes Booth would eneter the Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C. Here he would take matters into his own hands, and on April 14, 1965 one fatal shot would end the life of our beloved president "Abraham Lincoln".

ON MAY 8, 1864 HE WAS MORTALLY WOUNDED ALONG WITH CAPT. HENRY BARTLETT, 33rd NJ INF REGIMENT, WHILE ENGAGED IN BATTLE AT ROCKY FACE RIDGE "DUG GAP", GEORGIA. HIS UNMARKED GRAVE SITE MAY HAVE BEEN FOUND AND WE WOULD LIKE TO MOVE HIM TO A NATIONAL CEMETERY. PLEASE PASS THIS ON TO OTHER RESEARCHERS AND GENEALOGIST.
