Many years ago, Marianna was a town with a population of about 12,100.  It is located  in the Florida panhandle seventy miles west of Tallahassee. The town is in Jackson County, the third oldest county in the state, created in 1822 soon after the Florida territory had been acquired from Spain. There are a number of fine old homes in the area, many dating from before the Civil War. The present population of the county is about 41,375.   A beautiful little river, the Chipola, flows at the edge of town and separates it from The Florida Caverns State Park to the north. There are abundant opportunities for fishing and hunting in the area surrounding the town.  G.C.G.C..'s trip to Marianna proved to be a learning experience.  We found out about the rich history of the area which included civil war battles.  We also found out just how friendly the people are.  We were given a tour by the deacon one of the churches found below, and allowed to see a part of history in another that you will find nowhere else.  We would like to thank the people who took time out of their busy schedules to show us just how great Marianna is, and why it's one of our favorites.
