Yep... On March 8th, I got the chance to see Cyndi Lauper live in concert! *Squeal* I know that doesn't mean much to you, but it does to me. If you know me at all, you'll know Cyndi is my idol, and her music means a hell of a lot to me.

Anyway... Here's the lowdown on the greatest night of my life. :-D

I'm still kind of... at a loss for words, LOL. Last night, my vocabulary became limited to "Wow" and "Um... Woah...". :P

But that's what happens when your idol is standing practically right in front of you. *Dies* She walked right in the aisle near me! RIGHT BY ME!

Maybe I should start from the beginning. OK! Here goes.

We got there around 7:00, since they open the doors then. I got a
black t-shirt with a picture on the front and Cyndi Lauper written on the back in these funky letters. Waited around until about 7:30, when they opened the theater doors... Her opening act, Martha Wainright, did a few songs. Honestly, I think she did *too* many. lol. I felt badly for her, though, since a few people in the audience were a little rude about it. She wasn't THAT bad... Her voice was just too sweet for the rock and roll type songs she was trying to do. She was kind of a cross between Avril in terms of angsty, teen-written lyrics, and Janis Joplin with her throaty voice and repetitiveness. Ya gotta give her credit, though. She's opening for Cyndi, and Cyn's a pretty tough act to follow.

Anyway... That took us until 8:30 or so. There was a brief intermission until 9:00, when they dimmed the lights. Me? I nearly died, LOL. When she walked out, I was just in awe. Seriously. She opened with "At Last", and my mouth was hanging open the entire time. LOL. I couldn't believe it. It was *incredible*.  Her voice was just so flawless and clear and perfect!

Her hair was kind of slicked back, and she was wearing this red corset-type thing, a black jacket and a black skirt. (Which she eventually traded in for capris)

She talked for a bit in between songs. (Started off with "How ah ya?" in that damn cute NY accent of her's!) She gave a brief ("Well, to make a lawng stary showt...") thing about her inspiration for the songs on the At Last album, especially "Stay", which she sang next. She sang "I Drove all Night", which was really good. (She took that opportunity to get rid of the black jacket she was wearing, too. ;))

What else... She sang Shine, and that got everyone up and moving around. She came off the stage and headed over to the left (where my seats were!) and walked down the aisle. THAT was when it hit me that *I* was at a Cyndi concert... When she stood at the end of my aisle. And I was only three seats in, too! It was kind of weird. My mind was going "Move, move! HUG HER!", but all I could do was stand there and sing along. But she looked at me, so that was good enough! I swear on my life, I made eye contact with her. *Faints* She's so pretty close-up, too. It was just... I'm still in awe.

She sang Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood ("Ya can't go wrong with Burt Bacharach!"), then All Through The Night...

She did a different version of "Walk on By"; a little more rock-ish than the album version. ("I'll tell ya the reason for that is... The medication wore off", LMAO. She's great!) What else? She was testing the drum sound before that, and everytime they jammed, she'd be like "Ooh, yeah! That's good." LOL... I know that doesn't sound funny now, but with her NY accent, it was. ;p. What else? Change of Heart... Which was pretty good. She danced around a lot for that one. And her violinist- OMG! She did this crazy instrumental thing at the end. It was great.

She sang True Colours, and... Wow. I've always loved that song, but when she sings it live, it's incredible. Maybe it's just me, but when she sings it, it's not just some old song anymore. It's like she's singing it *right* to you. It was awesome. Next was Sisters of Avalon... Which she played the guitar for (She did quite a bit during the show, actually), which rocked!

She talked for awhile after that... She always does little things in between songs, y'know. Like she'd make little jokes, or just talk about how fun it is to give concerts, since each crowd is different and you never know what's going to happen with them.

She sang Fearless... It was lovely! She played the dulcimer for that one. She led right into Time after Time, which she kind of messed up near the end, but it's okay, LOL. Then what... Unchained Melody, which was AWESOME. She sat up on one of the risers, way up high, and sang, just illuminated by a purple light. It was incredible. I have this feeling she looked over then, too. Maybe it's just wishful thinking on my part? I don't know... anyway...

She sang Iko Iko after that, which was as fun as anything! Money Changes Eveyrhing- WOW. LOL. That's all I can say. She just... went all out with that one. She really belted it out. It was more like her old style of performing... She ran around, jumped off the stage, all that stuff. It was fun!

She ended with Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, which was the best finale ever. That's when EVERYONE stood up and started dancing. She got the audience into it ("Ya gotta feel it. Wiggle ya butts!"), by dividing us into three different sections, and giving us each a part of the song to sing. It was awesome... I didn't want it to end!

But, wow! I mean... For 50, she's in awesome shape. She jumped around, climbed up on everything, danced, LOL. She got up on the piano for Stay and It's Hard to Be Me. (She told us about the time she fell off the stage while performing it in Oklahoma. She was all, "It's hard to be me... Uh, YEAH!", lol.) She told this little story about how when her son was 2 (he's six now), he used to love Hard to Be Me, because of all the "me me me's" in it, LOL.

*Decides to stop rambling* :|

All in all, though, it was seriously unforgettable. She didn't do all the songs listed on the site, but it doesn't matter. The ones she sang were perfect. And, I know there's absolutely no chance of her reading this, but I'll say it anyway- I love you, Cyndi! Thanks for the greatest concert ever!

*I sent in a little review to her official site, too.
